Get ready to ish yourself, Windows 7 rocks. The best way to describe it is an OS with all the features of Vista and more with the resource needs of XP. I have Aero running on my Netbook! Aero!?! It's beautifull and it is incredably efficient, I get 8 hours of battery life on 7! My Desktop is a beast with 7, I am just floored. They really got it right this time.
What really pisses me off is that Microsoft basically released a sub-par OS in Vista, everyone bought it, and then Microsoft basically admits that Vista sucks by creating Windows 7. And now they expect us to give them more money to get out of the mess (Vista) they left us with.
One, Vista is still amazing in my book, I'm glad I got it, two, Windows 7 users will get some kind of trade up for free/cheap program if they legitimately bought Vista.
And what if Vista came pre-installed on my laptop? Am I correct in thinking that I am basically stuck with it unless I shell out $350+?
i am running the beta on here. getting better from the previous builds. this time it found most of my devices. so far so good. i miss xp though. i hate change i guess.
right. an advertisement from the #1 competitor is always the truth. and of course they would NEVER blow anything out of proportion.
What that is was the number one selling operating system of all time? Essentially 7 uses Vista as it's base, it's just a better build. Plus Apple is notorious for doing far worse to their users.
So here's my situation. I need, need, NEED a new computer desperately. I'm running on fumes with this Vaio laptop I bought in August '04. I don't want to give in to Apple (AWFUL experiences with the original iMac so I swore I would never buy one of their computers. Yes, their current lines are infinitely better). I'm too used to a Windows set up. Do I hold off for 7 (more than a year away) or do I buy a low-cost holdover that I can upgrade to 7 down the line? Or do I succumb to Apple? I've also vowed to never purchase a Sony product (computer or other) again. Such a piece of crap this laptop is.
Yes, VolksOS would have taken off too if it hadn't been for the processor limitations back then. Hitler's scientists just couldn't get it up passed 1 hz. Sad really. If anything, the Hitler analogies should be linked to Jobs...
So far windows 7 isn't too much different visuallly. I'm guessing most of the enhancements were behind the scenes. It's hard for me to notice since my laptop is pretty powerful but everything seems to be running smoothly. Certain apps aren't compatible so far. Mcafee Daemon Tools Bitcomet Quick Launch toolbar is gone but you can always recreate it manually. I'm not too fond of the pinning of the shortcuts since it moves it around the taskbar which I don't like. the best thing I like though is the out of the box support for H.264 movie files. No codecs to install to get those HD movie files I download to work with Media Center.
Seven is out of beta in August. I'd say get a beta of Seven and try it on your laptop. If you like it, wait, if you don't, get something like an XP machine.
uTorrent works and I think it's way better than bitcomet. PowerISO works over Daemon tools. I don't use Virus/Spyware software so I'm no help there.
I made the switch to uTorrent and does PowerISO work with MDF and MDS files? Virtual clonedrive doesn't so I haven't found another application that will do it. I'm just using AVG Free for virusscan.
Yeah, I'm running Ultimate. The main difference is the presence of Media Center. That's pretty much it. The new version of Media Center is possibly the nicest DVR software I've seen...
