or atleast the folks up in the marketing department. XP user here with no need or desire to upgrade to the ****ness that is post-vista world. However since the big launch is soon, just went to check the website to see what all the fuss is about and within minutes I realized these guys just retreaded all the marketing material from the XP/Vista launch. Look at the "discover windows" page and you'll know why they suck. I'll go tab by tab through each so-called "new and exciting" feature. 1) Entertainment on the go - Sounds great but its basically media center with new rims on it. Tried it back in 2005 and it sucked. Now the funny part is the typical Microsoft "additional part may be required, batteries sold seperately" line of BS, You need a TV turner, Media Center Extender, Cable/ Sat service. Really? I get all that and then this thing works sort of, kind of? With the latter, cable provider in place, WTF would go through all the hassle when a freaking DVR is standard with service these days? 2) Photo Sharing - Wow the advent of 21st century technology! We finally have photo sharing! Seriously this the same feature listed on every box from Window XP to now. Yeah there a few more things like tags, live photo gallery etc...but most of that stuff has been avaliable for a decade now on the internet through various services like flickr, picasa and such. Why Microsoft thinks it just reinvented the wheel is beyond me. 3) Photo editing - Look I has panorama! great but I can do that and a ton more with free photo editors like pixrl. 4) Your email in one place - Windows live aka hotmail = just shoot me. BTW still have no match for For gmail. 5) Homegroup - Now you can connect with all the computer in your house and even printers. Really that's new? How? Did that like 10 years ago with home network, file sharing, networked printer. Oh this is Microsoft so they must have the obligatory "no good reason but still you should pay us" feature aka the tie-in which in this case is the purchase of a Windows 7 certified router. Great now I drops more money cause the man says I has to, even though my router does all that without any upgrade needed. Now the for the epic fail feature. Check this out: Download free documents that guide you through great things you can do with Windows Translation: We suck at selling you our product with a short, concise and content rich description, so here's a megaload of PDF's, spam, junk, flyers and of course malware for you to download and somehow understand why you should drop $200 on our new OS which we are short on words to describe! Awesome job windows marketing, can't wait for this bloated elephant to fail! Here some advice: create fast, streamlined OS with less junk and unwanter tie-ins. Then add an app store like content system, devs make stuff you suck at and they get paid for the things you failed to do. Sounds about right doesn't it?
I just installed Windows 7 tonight. One complaint - where is the classic start menu? I hate this one. Was it that hard to leave the option? Other than that, I like it. Just tried NBA 2k9, and I can run the game on max settings without problems. I couldn't do that on Vista.
you know what, I'll settle for anything that freezes LESS than vista for a change. This whole rant of yours is pointless, WTH are you talking about? email? really? who needs built in email in a freaking OS? media center with new rims? what do you want, a professional DJ studio? try using a mac for a week then come back and tell me what you think of 7, heck, even vista.
7 has been just a tad quicker than vista for me. I do, however, have a very well spec'd computer. The difference i notice mainly is that open windows are very easy to manage now, the task bar is amazing, and 7 looks nicer than vista. It can do whatever I need it to, but I can't get it to connect to the network printers for the life of me. No drivers, and the machine that has the printers connected to it is a P.O.S.
ive been using xp since it came out, right up until windows 7 RTM came out. windows 7 is nice and easy to use. worth the upgrade and is better than vista (though vista was never bad for me, it was just clunky and resource happy). media center is nice. of course you need a tv tuner. if you want to blame someone for not being able to hook it up directly, blame it on the hardware manufacturer, not microsoft. they MAKE the hardware, windows 7 is just the software. all your other complaints are equally as dumb. everyone i know is on XP and since windows 7 came out, they've all switched. it's a solid OS.
Looks like someone pissed in someone's cheeze-ios this morning. Do you post something like this every time Apple releases a 10.x update? Every XP/Vista/Windows Service Pack? Relax dude. Breathe.
This whole anti-Microsoft hippie Mac-hugger thing is just getting silly. It is OK if you enjoy one over the other, but to run down virtually ANY product or anything Microsoft does just because it is Microsoft is just r****ded. I used to see this all the time from my college buddies when it was cool to piss on MS, and some of then still think it is the hip thing to do. If you are a career MS hater, before your hatred gets the best of you just ask yourself this one question: where would the world be today without Microsoft? I understand there are plenty of alternatives out there today, but MS still easily offers the best operating system to date and no one has come anywhere close to dethroning them as of yet. Consumers are still pretty darn happy with what MS is putting out there, so much so that they are willing to pay top dollar for their products when there is plenty of FREE alternatives out there today. Stop the hatred, embrace the OS that has literally changed the course of humanity.
to the OP: W T H are you talking about? just because something is better or worse to you doesn't mean that's how it's for everyone. it's called CHOICES. you pick what you like to use..and u move on. if you hate windows, DON'T USE IT! exactly!
You can say this about almost anything shareware compared to freeware. That somehow the product that you have to pay extra for is always limited and "bloatware", compared to the more customizable, free open source stuff.
As an IT professional, I highly recommend 7. Superbar rocks Indexing rocks Performance and resource management rocks It just plain rocks.
I've had Windows 7 since August and its been great for me. I never even used Vista. It's as compact as XP is but sleeker and with easier accessibility. OS X isn't all that either. It's just a pretty interface. One thing I actually like about the Mac is the Dashboard because it can overlay on top of your existing programs. As far as I'm concerned, OS X and windows 7 are equal. OS X alone is not worth the premium price Apple charges. That being said, I love the styling of the Macbook Pro as well as the iMac and the Air. I'm posting this on Leopard too.
looking forward to seeing it, so far most people seem to be pretty positive, which is more than they could usually say.
