The costs vary from company to company and based upon the number and size of your windows.

    1) Make sure you don't mind the "dark" look from the outside on your home. Some people have put those things on and regretted the look it gave their house.

    2) They tend to darken your interior since they don't let as much light in once you put them on. Some people do not like that at all.

    3) I decided against it due to not wanting to turn my house into a potential cave. ;) I may still get them installed on some windows on the rear of my house.

These guys are one of the more respected and biggest installers in the Dallas area and seem to be in the Houston area, too : http://www.lonestarsolarscreens.com/

BTW, I got a quote on my house back in 2005 for my rear windows. 2 upstairs and about 4-6 downstairs I think. I didn't want my front windows done. I could've sworn the quote was around $700 or so.

Also, you can buy the materials to do it yourself from your local Home Depot/Lowe's if you want.

I put solar screens on my house this year...and I am truly amazed at the difference they make.

I wish I had put them on earlier

They really do bring the heat down inside the house a lot, but they do make the house darker inside.

    Good guys, and reasonable prices

I am looking for some now.
Want to cover 4 windows that get the most sun light.
Lowest quote I got so far is about $65 per window

    that sounds about right.

I made mine and it wasn't worth it, better off just paying the little extra to have someone do it.

My neighbor just put some up that are silver looking. Not sure how effective they are and if they eliminate the darkness/view factor.

    You might look into that

have it at my parent's rental house. didn't have it when we lived there and there are 3 HUGE windows in the front. i never went into my room from 2-6 PM in the summer b/c it was so hot. soooo worth it! it is a hair darker in the room but i think it's worth it.

I had them professionally done. It was definitely worth it. It makes a big difference in the comfort of the home during the day when the sun is pounding. My only issue now is with the radiant heat effect at night. Need a radiant barrier to deal with that. I hate that effect at nights.

Have them on every window in my house. Made a huge difference when we put them on. We went with the 60% version so that there was still some light in the house. The 80% make your house dark.

My parents used to have their southern windows tinted. My dad was able to do all the tinting on his own... From what I remember, the process was incredibly easy.
