Windmill dunks, 3rd row blocks, maybe not needed

A thread was recently started stating that we aren't exciting to watch. This thread is a little different...I'm arguing against the necessity of some "highlight reel plays"

For instance, you're running the open court, Kevin Martin and co would lay it up or do a two handed tame dunk. On the other hand, you have James and co who find any excuse to do a windmill dunk. Is that necessary to do ALL the time? It's exciting once in awhile, I like the displays of athleticism but I find it egotistical and rude when a player does often. I get the heat of the moment, you're really into the game, etc. But again, I don't see it. I like technical side of the game a lot and I personally cringe when I see these players show off.

On the defensive side, we have Howard who swats it so hard it goes into the 3rd, 4th, 5th row. Now, this, I understand. You're going up for a block, you just want to get it out of there, so I'll let this go a little bit. I just don't find this impressive.

    Ok let the bashing begin...

I find that stuff impressive when there's someone actually around the basket. Dunking ON someone, that's cool.

eh, what am I saying... .there's never anything wrong with a cool dunk (as long as you don't miss)

practically speaking, it also helps morale. Although I disagree completely with that *ahem*ijiot from the other thread, I'm afraid I can't get on board w/ you either...

Where is this rumored thread that you speak of? Wherever it is, you should tell that person to open their eyes and watch our recent game with the Pacers - then proceed to tell them to STFU and GTFO.

You think other teams using athleticism on open court plays is rude?

    Have you considered badminton?

i dont think there's any need to bash, other than for starting a thread that's not really necessary...but something is wrong with fans if they're not worried about WINNING, period. Who cares how it's done.

    there you go, lol.

Although, they were up by 20 so it wasn't too big of a risk, and it would've been epic if he made it.

    A crowd of 20,000+, a playoff game, up 20+...

I'd be surprised if a player DIDN'T attempt anything like that. Good counterargument to OP's point.

No, I said I like the display of athleticism. I don't see why its necessary to dunk all the time. I never said I don't like dunks. It's fun to see a player to get posterized but when I see clip after clip of LeBron doing this, I don't like it Maybe rude was the wrong word...its more necessary than anything...

Yeah, if he had made that the arena would have gone crazy. That was worth the risk IMO. Nothing wrong with that, in fact, as a fan of the NBA I liked that he tried to do it.

As long as you make the windmill slam, I see nothing wrong with it. Its a nice lookin play.

Swatting a ball into the stands is a dumb play while the other isn't.

Get real, and appreciate the game for what it is. Highlight plays have been a part of the NBA for decades, and i love seeing highflyers windmill one down. Man, are you saying you don't enjoy watching vids of Dominique and Shawn Kemp tear down the rims? I don't however get all too hyped about watching Dwight swat shots into the 3rd row, it is far more impressive to catch it, or deflect it and KEEP possession of the ball...
