Nice article on Willis in Thursdays Chron...here's an exerpt:

"I was young and energetic and full of music and hanging out and all that, just like the kids do now," Willis said. "But after about my third year, I started figuring things out, enjoying the game more and more.

"The kids on this team are the same way. They don't know anything now. They're still young, and they haven't figured out the game and how to adapt.

"But they'll learn. Or maybe they won't. This is not the first team I've been with that has a lot of young guys. Hopefully, they've all learned that you have to work at this game."

Willis isn't giving warnings. He's merely supplying the wisdom of experience. The NBA offers no promises, no matter how skilled you are.

But he said the work ethic he sees on the Rockets is one thing that should see the younger players through the tough times.

"They're willing to work," he said. "That makes a big difference."

willis has been such a good influence on our team, particularlty cato. kelvin can relate to him because they're both big men. i think that's why it would be so nice to have a veteran point guard like a mark jackson around to help guide steve a bit more in his descion-making.

Thats an interesting idea, personally, I think he should dribble his fat ass into retirement and maybe we could hire him as an assistant coach or somethin'.

haha, true, but it doesn't have to be jackson, mainly just some kind of point-guard role model. if you look at our staff we have a bunch of big-guy specialists but really no one for steve who just happens to be our most important player.

Avery Johnson in Dallas would be perfect for Stevie and the crew as a mentor; and tough enough to get their attention.

Agree wholeheartedly that we need veteran leadership for our guards, either from a player or from an emerging coach. RT can't seem to command their attention, or else doesn't know what to do with them.

Seems to me that the great teams always have a blend of youth and experience :)

    Dallas,

AJ would be perfect, someone who plays a different style of game who has won a championship....yes, I think he would do nicely.

When Moochie was holding out, I thought Greg Anthony would have been a perfect fit. I remember Willis being a raw atheletic good rebounding big man and turned himself into a decent offensive player to go along with his rebounding. No one is expecting Cato to be the next Dream, but talent wise and hard work he could be at least as good as Kevin was. It just seems like players that came into the league in the 80's were more ready to play and worked harder than the players today.

Dakota quoting Dallas said: AJ would be perfect, someone who plays a different style of game who has won a championship....yes, I think he would do nicely.

    I agree.

A day or two ago someone suggested Mark Jackson, too.

I agree. Someone needs to get thrugh to Steve, if he really wants to start playing like a point guard.

Those were some good realistic sounding words from Willis.

I believe that was me. However, I would like Avery Johnson just as much. We need that type of guy.
