Willis should be traded to Indiana for a couple of reasons. 1 being he deserves playing time but as you know it would b counterproductive at this point to bench eddie for anybody. 2 lets b classy and fair to the guy cause he is the same 2 well everybody. My point being that Willis should be playing right now because he can help a team win. Indiana needs a guy like Willis BADLY. And he would help them alot for the playoffs. Now I'm not saying I know who we should get in return, but well how about Los and a pick. That is if Mr. Rogers wouldn't mind he certainly ain't playin where he is and for all that he's gone through he seems to be a good guy and a good player when he's lucky enough to get on the court. In fact him playing with Eddie could be interesting. I'm not completely outta belief that we'll make the playoffs this year but we're not playin Willis anyway and Cato is playin like I thought he could, plus it could be beneficial to all parties. If you remember how Willis started the season you'll realize that he needs to be where he's needed and thats my whole point. In fact he seems like he is a better option at this point than Ewing or Dream and they are getting good playing time out East. I'd like to think the best reason why we'd do it is just so he can be a difference maker on a playoff team. It would remind me of when Denver let EDDIE!!! go before it was 2 late to be on a playoff roster and he caught a few more magic moments that we'll all remember. What do u think?
Sorry, but that doesn't make any sense at all. Carlos Rogers will not play on the Rockets again as long as Rudy is the coach.
I feel we'll continue to keep Willis... because he is somehow the old work ethic, the player who has gave it his best and it's nearing his time to go. The Rockets need his guidance and have a sad reverence for him -every retiring player's leaving. In a strange way - I feel it is a compensation (without taking anything away from Willis) to the Rockets dissappointment in not being able to retire and respect Olajuwon's departure from the NBA in Houston and not some other city.
How about this deal? Houston trades: Kevin Willis $3,000,000 to Indiana Houston trades: Walt Williams $5,000,000 to Indiana Houston trades: First round pick in 2002 Draft to Indiana TOTAL: $8,000,000 Indiana trades: Jonathan Bender $2,546,760 to Houston Indiana trades: Austin Croshere $6,310,000 to Houston (BYC Value $4,732,500) TOTAL: $8,856,760 TRADE ACCEPTED
I think we are showcasing Cato currently to trade Cato not Willis...If Cato plays well we may get more for Cato than Willis. We will then use Willis as the starter. Griffin Thomas Taylor will be our starting frontline next year.
Willis is helping Cato out big time. I say we keep him, and I'm sure he's just a little burned out from his early season energy spree. Then re-sign him as an assistant coach next season.
So yeah basically lets keep him if we're gonna play him but I just think I see a proud old warrior out there who would want to make a difference and has certainly proven this very season what great shape he's in and how effective he can be. I think he has had some good effect on Cato this season but I think Cato's upsurge in caring has had a little more 2 do with Griffin's emergence. I didn't think Carlos felt that acromonial to Rudy but it was jst one possible scenario. I really like the trade idea for Bender and Croshere if it were possible. Anyway I don't see Willis wanting to play wise old man with all the undeserved DNP-CDs. He was at near double double status as our 6th man just over a month ago if you remember. Indiana looks like the best scenario I can think of. And we're not playin them anymore this year so thats good.
I agree. Willis deserves to get minutes somewhere, not ride the bench for a bad team. The Rockets have basically treated Willis like pure crap when you think about it. First he agrees to sign with Houston for cheap so they could bring in Barkley, then they repay him by trading him to Toronto. Now they have him riding the bench on one of the worst teams in the league. It sucks because he's such a great guy, and the Rockets treat him like dog meat.
The thing is the Rockets are I'm sure being up front with Willis and as you say treating him like crap but hey at least they're nice and honest about it I expect. The thing is this team isn't gonna get there this year and at this point it makes more sense to look to the future. Meaning playing griffin and Cato alot, and I do mean that even Cato can still get better with more playing time. Anyway I like the guy and think he could be doing something productive for a team who's in it right now instead of languishing on the bench on a team whose current slight playoff chances are rapidly diminishing. And damnit people does nobody care! =P
Although I may not agree, I do follow everyone’s reasoning on this … well, except that remark about not believing the playoffs are out of the picture this year (” .. I'm not completely outta belief that we'll make the playoffs this year ...” ) . This leads me to think someone got dropped on their head early on in life. However that being said, be assured that Willis isn’t going anywhere. He was brought here to do a specific job and he is doing it. He adds muscle when needed and he tutors Cato and Grifffin in the finer points of bigman positioning. He also offers sincere verbal direction (which is accept with respect it deserves) in the locker room. And that type of leadership has been missing for many, many years in a Rocket locker room. RT is attempting to rebuild a team here. Getting rid of Willis doesn't do anything except slow that rebuilding down again.
Remember Charles Jones? Rudy could keep Willis on this team for years. It is too bad Barkley got hurt, because this team could really use his leadership. What the Rockets need is a player they respect to get in their face when they make stupid plays on the court. Rudy is more of a "Let them work it out on their own" type of coach. This team needs a SMART player that when he talks the team listens....Willis is that man. DD
First of all man just because I was dropped on my head as a child doesn't give you the right...hold on...sniffle sniffle . Anyway I know Willis can be a decent leader allright but you know what, he is still a better player. I know that Dada and Oily know their stuff and probably are actually Rudy and CD themselves actually but I say give the guy to Indiana and let him make a difference and teach a little at the same time. Our coaches can do some of the little extras with the big men themselves and we might get a little youthfull talent we might actually play in return. Just once again remember what Willis was doing at the start of the season and compare it to the fact that his 5 minutes in Atlanta were his first minutes at all in like 5 games. I see it clearly from my perspective call me a madman if you will but to me its cut and dried. Do the man a favor like was done for Eddie Johnson at the end of his career. Just because Rudy ended his career on the bench (Unfortunately due to Kermit the F---head) doesn't mean Willis has to also.
