Just passing this along. This is according to sources out of Sac. Even though this trade probably improves the Kings, it probably lessens the chance of Webber resigning with them, though not greatly. ------------------ The Smurfs were Communists [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited June 28, 2001).]
It gets them that "vet" pointguard which they wanted... sort of. At least, he's not a headcase. ------------------ "How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak. Man, trades like this confuse the hell out of me. This is up there with the Brand trade. I just don't get it. You trade away a good-to-very-good PG like Bibby for a Jason Williams? ------------------ "I had mine chewed off by a boss one time." -- Behad leaves us wondering if he gets hazard pay...
I heard this last night on ESPN radio. They all said it was lopsided talent-wise, but were talking about Williams has the most popular jersey (in terms of sales), will build some excitement in the new Memphis market, and is only on contract for one year, meaning he can be a limited experiment. They basically said, "I can see why for PR reasons, but, damn, he sucks!" ------------------ Squatting on old bones and excrement and rusty iron, in a white blaze of heat, a panorama of naked idiots stretches to the horizon. Complete silence-their speech centers are destroyed-except for the crackle of sparks and the popping of singed flesh as they apply electrodes up and down the spine. White smoke of burning flesh hangs in the motionless air. A group of children have tied an idiot to a post with barbed wire and built a fire between his legs and stand watching with bestial curiosity as the flames lick his thighs. His flesh jerks in the fire with insect agony.
Let be me the first memphian to say that this deal sucks! Wins builds excitement not stupid passes, bricks, and the sort. They must think memphians don't follow basketball at all. Man this is a stupid trade! I went to bed so happy last night, the rockets got griffen, and memphis got gasol and battier, then I wake up and bibby is traded! ------------------ I am an invisible man. It's funny because CNNSI had an article on their website about the HORRIBLE trading legacy of the Astros (you know, Morgan, Lofton, Cedeno, Schilling, etc.). Maybe the Grizz are paying homage to the 'Stros with this pick, as well as that HORRENDOUS Brand trade CHI fooled themselves into. ------------------
I think the Grizzlies believe that Bibby is not the PG that will take them to the next level (being a .500 team, which isn't much). They probably want a new start with a new batch of players (hence, the trade of SAR & Bibby) to get out of their current rut. I don't think JW is the answer, but they think Bibby is not leading them to anywhere either. It's kind of like the Lima trade, except Bibby currently displays more talent (#s wise, not win wise). I do think the Grizzlies gave up too much though, but I am not concerned. They've traded away Othello & Price, the only player left that I root for is Dickerson. ------------------ 15 years later... You're so over the top, they need to re-design the house. Memphis now has a young, exciting team. Sacramento begins its downward slope to mediocrity. (University) Memphis Blue ------------------
The Grizzlies traded their two best players for a head case PG and a rookie. They are going to be sooo terrible next year and have to hope Gasol will be an all world player or they are going to be pitiful for years. But hey, if J Will sells the seats and they have sweetheart deal (guar $) with Memphis for years, maybe the owner will make some money before the fans get fed up. Sacremento got a lot better, so much so they might make a run at the playoffs without Webber and at least have some good young players if he leaves for nothing (Bibby is like 3 years younger than Williams and better than him in everyway already, Pedga (sp.) and Turkgulu (sp.) will only get better as well. If Webber wanted a championship 1st, staying with Sac is a much better option now. Only because we swung the Griffon trade would I say he would have slightly better chance to win one with us.
Oh, I wonder what that generally respectful and articulate--though often delusional and hard headed--Gizzard fan has to say now (can't remember his/her name right now). He/she should be happy that embarrassment of a franchise left town.
Memphis will be an interesting team. I like Battier and apparetnly Gasol is a player. They will try to run which will play into J-W's strengths. As for the Kings, they are in trouble. I really do think since J-W was traded that Webber won't agree to a S&T, even if it benefits him a couple million dollars. The Kings do have some nice role players but w/out C-webb and nothing in return they will be hard pressed to get over 35 wins next year. That could change if a S&T does happen but I really think Webb will hose them.
I heard about this As I was listening to KHTK IN Sactown So I was among the first to Know , Then they took some calls and everyone seemed to love the trade , Only the 12 year old kids who shaved there heads and bought the 55 jersey are dissapointed . I think Webber's only option now is to stay in Sac Town . Houston may be the only team able to coax him out but now we would have to likely unload some of our key back ups . ------------------ 2001 : a Space Mockery
