It may be early, ugly and tense, but I like the fact that the rox are protecting the home court. 8-1 with a couple of nail biters but the experience of these close games can only help the rockets in the future. If we win 70%-80% of our games at home and 50% on the road, the rockets should easily make the playoffs. We almost gave this one away, but the last 3mins the Rockets were playing smart.
I heard early reports it was a sell out. If only 10,000 fans than it obviously wasn't. I will be heading to a couple of games later in December before I fly out of country.
I'm still pissed off that they lost to Memphis last month. How do you lose to Memphis at home? This team should be 9-0 at home, but oh well.
I thought Tim on the board said there were only a few seats left last week...but they weren't even close to a sellout last night
it should be noted that lots of the lower bowl seat are bought by companies that may or may not use them. There are also the season ticket holders that for whatever reason dont show....even if they dont show, it is still a sold seat. When the Rockets consistent home wins are reported or even noticed...more of the corporate types may show up... Just because the fanatics here know all about how good they are at home, doesnt mean that the regular joes, and corporate ttypes know about it.
If it helps, I'll be taking four front row tickets off some corporate stooge's hands that they won't be using, probably in January...
I'm still pissed that they lost to Cleveland last year in the last game before the All-Star break. I was so pissed, I did not watch a single game for the rest of the year (except a little of the retro-jersey game). I had absolutely had enough of their BS and didn't feel like wasting all of my time on a team that didn't seem to care if they succeeded. Up to this point this year, they've done a 180.
Houston sports fans suck, have always sucked, and always will suck. These people absolutely love football and you still have to drag them to a Texans or Oilers game. Maybe it's the large land mass and heavy traffic of Houston, but unless you're a contender, the fans just have never shown up in H-Town.
Everyone is from somewhere else, thus the fair weathered fan. People still are afraid of coming downtown due to being unfamiliar with it. The Toyota Center is in a wierd place relative to most of the downtown resurgence (I live down here). Most of the cool stuff is in North downtown on Main and on Market Squae / Travis. Park there (free) after 6PM and walk to the Center or take a cab (the horror)...
damn boombooom, you really know how to hold a grudge. but i have a question as it relates to this thread: does this make you a fair-weather fan?
That is the only time I've ever held a "grudge" against one of Houston's sports teams. I've been a Rockets fan since '81 and can faintly remember seeing them on TV in the Finals (I was only 9 then). My first Rockets game was some time during the mid 80's when Bill Fitch was coach. I can't remember who they were playing, but I do remember Fitch coming out wearing a gorilla Halloween mask and Robert Reid hitting a half-court shot just a split second after the buzzer before going in for the half. I'm definitely not a fairweather fan...I had just had enough last year. I guess the older you get, you're able to analyze things a bit better and see the true potential out of things. In my mind, the Rocket players were wasting a golden opportunity to finally make the playoffs. But with continual losses to teams like Cleveland, I just couldn't take it anymore. I'm back for the entire year this year and probably for years to come. I've continually told my Rocket fan friends that when the next championship rolls around, I'll enjoy it as much as the first two because of all of the years of struggling to reach that point.
Can't blame me and my friends... we've been to 3 home games. At least we show up in the cheap seats! We were makin some good noise last night, it wasn't that bad as posted here.
Memphis is well coached and real good for a young team. With Bonzi they are going to be tough... I don't think that was so bad...
Yeah i know that, but only 10679 tickets were sold for the Portland game. That's according to ESPN attendance figures. I'm assuming this includes people who bought season tickets and didn't show up.
