I think so. Yao is too good to be held down by a mediocre team and coaching staff. Team YAO will set things in motion once his contract is up in 3 more years. They're too savvy to let his talent go to waste.
A lot of other teams will be openly willing to sign him a max contract too. It's not gonna be about the money when you are projected to be the next greatest center/player and most influential marketing hypster since Jordan. I can see a lot of teams willing to pay the luxury tax just to get him in their lineup. After all, championships are born around good big men.
stop this poll. Yao is going to be the Franchise player(w Francis). It will be their responsibility to carry the team since next season.
Market -wise, Yao Team will want him to go to places , like New York, California, where there are large number of Asians, especially Chinese. Its not just the contract, but the overall market.
I didn't vote because it is too early to tell. But I am just curious. If Yao Ming plays for another team (any team in NBA), do you think he will get more success this season? And which one is more suitable for him at RIGHT NOW?
Like I said, Team Yao is too savvy to keep him with a losing franchise. Game-wise and Market-wise. If this team is not built around Yao, then him leaving is automatic. Don't think Yao doesn't get pissed about being benched in such a predictable manner when he could actually START the fourth quarter to help make a difference instead of being put in with 5-6 minutes to go with a 15pt deficit. That kind of crap would piss any player off.
if things do not change, which I think highly likely given our stubborn coach and guards and our poor forward position, in 2 years Yao has to think about moving. I can't think of a reason not to if I were in his position. From the prospective of fans, we don't want that happen. however, put yourself in his position, you will leave too. He will have new fans whereever he decides to go.
DAAAAAAAAAAAAANG. Yao Ming and Tim Duncan along with Tony Parker and Manu Ginoboli of the future. GOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLY.
I feel that other teams may be reluctant to have him, since it would take a lot pain to integrate Yao Ming into their system. Plus, Houston has done a good job in pleasing Chinese government by treating Ming well, and I think they will want Ming stay, and Ming will stay.
It has become difficult for top players to change teams in this league. Because of the restricted FA rule, the Rockets will be able to match any offer that Yao gets when his rookie contract is up. Besides, not many teams are willing to pay luxury taxes just to get a player. Also, I have faith that Yao will stay with the team that drafted him. He has more class than a Shaquille O'neal (who bolted Orlando and ruined that franchise for years).
If Rockets won't make substantial changes, there is no point staying Houston for Yao. It'll be a waste for both sides.
I think Laker will get Yao after Yao finish his rookie contract (Shaq should have retired at that time). Image Kobe and Yao play on the same team and be coached by Phil Jackson!!! 3-5 more years champion???
It's still too early to tell, i hope everything get better in 2 years, if not and the Rockets continue to have a predictable offensive system and there is no improvement in utilizing Yao properly. Then Yao might think about going to somewhere in 2 years, if not Team Yao will give him a million reasons to leave in the final year of his contract.
That would be too ironic if Yao ended up with the Lakers and Kobe. Soooooo many people will be hatin the lakers if that happens.. LOL
I think he will stay because mainly of his character. He seems to be a loyal person as evidence by what we seeing in him so far. Also if I am not mistaken loyalty is very important in the Chinese culture. People are praise for their loyalty and to them that what they perceived as a true hero. So, if the Rockets treat him and the Chinese government right, I do not see Yao moving to another team. Money is secondary to the image that Yao suppose to carried about his people. And regardless where he end up, the money that he will make is much more than he ever needed.
Good points, but I still think he is more of a competitor than a saint. He will want to position himself to win championships, to further put himself in a position to help fellow Chinese Basketball players come to the NBA.
