3 impressive wins, actually routs, including today's big win against the Timberwolves. Dude averages 21.3 ppg, 13.7 rpg, 2.7 bpg and is 64% from the floor during the 3 game period.

He's definitely deserving of it. The thing that's most impressive about the numbers he's put up, is that they weren't earned in garbage times. They actually meant something and greatly effected the outcome of the game. Even more impressive every one of those wins Yao got a pretty substantial amount of rest by the time the 4th quarter came up, barring the occasional stint here and there.

Yao showed today that he can dominate smaller players. He was making buckets, snaring boards, and altering shots. Don't know who the other candidates would be but I think T-Mac is averaging 35 points or so this last week. But gotta throw the big fella a bone every once in a while.

Now here's what I'd like to see. Next time Yao is all alone under the bucket and gets the ball. He should throw it off the glass to himself and then dunk it. Like the "there and back" jam on NBA Jam2004. Haha. That would be something.

I believe he should. Who has had a better week?

Hey, he got his POW already last week. Oh, wait, that was Robertson's POM. It is amzing for him to tranform from the POM to a potential POW within just one week.

i think he have to have the same type of game against the grizz before he gets the award..is there any other team in the west with a bigger than 3 straight win streak>?..i have to check...if there's none then he might win....but actually it's harrd to decide who's should get POW because steve have great numbers too...not doubles...but his state for the three game are like 15 pts ...8 rbs....7 asssit?....somewhere close...but who cares about individuals stuff...all i want is for us to win....

Actually, based on the numbers, he should get it.

Over the last week, the only teams that have been undefeated are the Rockets, Detroit, Dallas, Memphis and Sacramento. Usually teams with good records produce the best player of the week. Detroit is 11-0 and the rest won all their games last week at the least.

Of those teams, only really Rip Hamilton (20 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists), Dirk Nowitzki (22 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 44% FG), Peja Stojakovic (26 points, 8 rebounds, 49% FG, 35% 3) are anywhere close to Yao's numbers in the last three games: 21 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks and 63% FG shooting.

    He deserves it BIG TIME!

T-mac is playing for the east conference.

I guess that there have been a long time since a Rockets won the conference POW and you guys forgot that there are two CPOW: one for east, one for the west conference.

I cannot think of anyone on the west conference that is more deserving than Yao, especially if you throw in the W-L into consideration.

Peja has a shot. There's been a bit of media buzz around Peja lately too, starting with saying that he should be an all star to last night when Fastbreak compared his numbers to Larry legend.

    Jeff,

Yao is averaging 21.3, 13.7 rpg and shoots 64% from the floor. Your numbers are close, but the small difference might be the deciding factor eventually.

Also as someone pointed out, Yao did not get any garbage points to pad his stats. You can make a point that Yao's play against Washington in the 3rd Q, 1st half against the Celtics sealed Rocket's victories. And today he is effective the whole game.

I did screw up the rebounds (DOH!) and rounded down on the points, but he is shooting just under 63% - 25-40 for 62.5% - in the last three games.

On Peja, I agree. The guy has been unstoppable lately. He is Yao's only real competition at this point.
