Think about it. With his fanbase of asian fans all around the NBA, will Yao ever get that feeling of everybody in this place hates me. You know, like opposing teams feel in Arco Arena. i.e: When Yao played against the U.S on Saturday he drew so many asian fans who are loud, and they love him.He said that it felt like a home game.Remember, this game was in America. Do you think this trend will continue everywhere the Rockets go? If so, great, then the Rockets would never be in a full hostile environment.
yeah, there will be a group of asian fans where ever the Rox go... There will be a group of rox fans in opponent games
Are ya seein' what I'm sayin'. We are on the verge of domination. Not only the the other team, but the other teams' fans.
Will all of Yao's games be shown in China? If so there might be a declaration of war on Utah by the time the season is over.
Heh. Heh. Utah would be in trouble because who in the U.S likes Utah besides Utah? I think we'd help.
The Rockets will play to large crowds this year period because Yao in an intriguing player - the possible much awaited Anti-Shaq. Of course, he happens to be Chinese so there will be visits to cities with large Aisan communities where he will be cheered no matter what. Yao seems so likeable and Shaq, for whatever reason has never been. So this year I think will be very different than what will occur if and when Yao starts to dominate. Wilt knew what he was talking about when he said "No one roots for Goliath". Also I think a lot of the Yao bashing isn't because of the hype surrounding his arrival, I think it's because he's not an American and because he hasn't got a rep on the mean streets of America. Too many NBA players have that mindset and that's probably why the game has deteriorated over the last decade. When Steve and Cat aren't saying the right things - and they are now for the moment - they really sound self-serving and a little ignorant about what a good baskeball team is (I'm so glad Mooch has their ears) and they are not alone. Yao, if successful, will suffer a backlash at some point, and hopefully by then he'll be mature enough to deal with it. This season I think Yao will have more to deal with in his locker room than he will on the court. But he seems to be a happy young man, and he'll be fine. And in 2 years I think E. Griffin will be telling his elders when to shut up.
Nobody likes a big player. The Yao lovefest will end game 1 and then (whether right or wrong) all the critics will come out.
Nope. Just that there will be a huge support group for them everywhere. Minus- Utah. You know, like when the Braves come here.
Well the cheers are a HUGE help to the team! your right they wouldnt feel at home it would be too loud huh
You're speaking the truth,Truth! I expected increased visibility and marketability for the Rockets when they won the rights to Yao,but after seeing what's going on since Yao arrived in North America for the exhibitions and the tournament, it's safe to say we'll be seeing Rockets,Rockets,Rockets everywhere all the time. The interest in seeing how this foreign legend adapts to the NBA and how he fulfills his potential is only fueled by the potential of the team he's coming to. And the cherry on top is Yao's personality and maturity. Remember how we kept reading reports at first and they almost always mentioned his personality as an asset? Now we're seeing why. If he develops anywhere near his potential and keeps his sense of values,I see him staying on this huge wave we're beginning to see for a long, long time. And the Rockets won't be America's Team. They'll be "Earth's Team"!!!!
i dont think well be having problems with the retirement home all stars of utah...i feel a season sweep comin on
