Reportedly, the Rockets called off a deal that would have sent Bonzi to the Bulls for Mike Sweetney. Now, I know that this all seems extremely convenient now that Wells is hurt (again), but at the time (2, 3 weeks ago), we needed frontcourt depth, period. It's naive to think Hayes can be relied upon to compete with the beasts of PF in the playoffs. Sweetney would have added rebounding, an interior presence, and he's got a sound offensive arsenal. In 8.9 mpg this year, he's averaging 3.9 ppg and 2.7 rpg. Not bad for limited time. In his best season, he averaged 8 points and 5 rebounds in 19 minutes per game (04-05, with the Knicks). For his career, he's averaged 6.7 points and 4.6 boards in 16 mpg.

Prior to the trade deadline, we knew that Bonzi is a capable scorer (on a high volume of shots) and nice rebounder for his size. But he's horrible defensively and seems to be the most apathetic and lazy Rocket of them all. That's not a good thing when you're expected to be a heavy minute, rotation guy. Sweetney would have given us depth at two prime positions for a playoff contender, plus he would be here for a few more years (on a reasonable contract) while Bonzi would likely bail after this season.

    What are your thoughts?

What the heck?!?! I didn't realize his stats were that good! He could've been our final piece to the puzzle that would have propelled over the Mavericks and Spurs!!! Another boneheaded move by CD!

Can Sweetney play point? Because, you know, we're in dire need for one.

Sweetney is really talented offensively. A nice piece to add if you needed another low post scorer. But we already have the best low post scorer in the game, and I don't see how he'd add much. He's not a great defender, he's an average rebounder, and obviously he's chronically out of shape.

Tough call, Sweetney has the size so it's tempting to go with him...but But Bonzi has the experience and puts in the extra hours and i think it really showed upon his arrival at training camp.

Outside of pie-eating, Bonzi can provide us with so much more once he is healthy and i'd really like to see where we can go with him playing at a high level.

Neither have done a thing this year. At least Bonzi has done something in the recent past. Sweetney never has. I would take the upside potential of what Bonzi can add to the team over Sweetney every day. Not even close in my book.

I wished they had made some kind of deal, because I don't think the Rockets are fully loaded, but apparently nothing worked. We need a PG and PF, same needs for the last several seasons.

By "reportedly", I meant that Chicago was ready to go with the deal. It was Houston who said no. I believe I read it on SI.com of trades that didn't go through at the deadline.

Sweetney can't compete with the PFs of the West. It's a joke to think that he can compete against KG, Duncan, Dirk, or even Kirilenko.

He is too fat and slow.

At least, Chuck gives a rebounding presence, fast hands, steals, hustle, and speedy feet to take charges.

Imagine Sweetney trying to get his tubby butt into position for a charge. LOL

    I love Chuck.

We missed a chance to get a PF who could match up and defend Dirk, Duncan, Boozer, Amare, and Brand.

foot problem of some sort...strain or something

Baqui, I almost did the same thing, but then I re-read it and realized he was being ironic...or sarcastic or something
