The only reason I ask this is because of Kobe's surgery on his knee and the fact that he has the right index finger of an 83 year old man. Kobe even said during the playoffs that the finger was giving him a lot of problems while he was trying to shoot. He also will probably have to deal with pain in his finger for the next 50 years and will have to wrap it to protect it. As far as the knee goes, this is his third surgery on the knee and it could slow him down a bit. Of course the rest of the team will be back but without Kobe close to 100 percent, can the lakers be contendors? Will Kobe's situation cause him to shoot worse and to not be an effective closer or is Kobe just going to be Kobe and be the effective closer that he is despite the injury?Thoughts.

Remember the year when Kobe had some sort of injury or whatever and took all his shots left handed? And was still a beast?

Yeah, uh, I don't worry about them ever slipping anytime soon. Kobe will find a way to stay effective.

After Phil Jackson leaves it'll be another story.

The lakers are a championship team because of the pieces around Kobe as well.

Lakers' strength has always been their size since they acquired Gasol.
As of now, no teams in the league can match their size thus making lakers favor to repeat!

Yep, Kobe just got surgery he was looking good in Rucker + he's resting.

Finger will be there, but they've been to 3 finals with him playing like that, what's stopping them from a 4th straight?

Gasol's been resting + their 2 weak spots last year (Pg Position/Perimeter Depth)
have been addressed with Barnes & Blake

Not to mention that Phil guy with 11 rings is returning for the 4th 3-peat.

Celtics could match their size now and some other teams could but usually they never make it as far as the lakers

I just love the fact ESPN/sports writers keep throwing those ridiculous stats at our face, things like Kobe has a 83 years-old finger. I mean if you put Yao's feet bone in a museum, it prob should belong in the dinosaur section. But we still expect those people to be all-stars, right?

As we learned that Kobe's finger didn't just age over night, it was the constant work load makes it age faster than the rest of his body. So his finger is prob like 70 years-old the year before, and 60 years-old before that, and he was pretty damn good with those old fingers. Then why all the sudden 83 become so significant? Is this the magic number in between you are good and you are done?

I don't see them beating the Miami Heat in a 7 game series.

They still don't have anyone that can stop Gasol and Bynum and Odom has the length and speed to bother Lebron.

kobe just has to be kobe 75% of the time. the lakers have the best all-around front line in the L where big men are mediocre. they will be the best in the west.

pau gasol is their most consistent player anyways. he will allow kobe to have bad nights here and there.

He's on the down-slide of his career. His regular season production will continue to slip, but as he usually does he'll turn it back up in the playoffs. The Lakers are still the favorite next year.

yeah, but it may be a year too late.

they should have gotten Shaq last year, late in the season when Cavs were trying to unload the diesel. With Shaq on the team, arguably, The Celts could have beaten the Lakers in the Finals. as it was, without Perkins in the last 2 games, they still took the Lakers to 7 games.

This. Seriously, the Lakers this year is probably one of the most stacked teams ever. I'd take them over Miami as the team to beat.

All of those extra games eventually wear a body down, maybe this is the year that they fall by the wayside like the Spurs did 2 years ago.

IMHO the Lakers will just throw wave after wave after wave of good defenders at Miami. When 4rth quarter comes Kobe will be fresh as a daisy while Miami's big 3 will be spent. LBJ is basically the only guy they have to worry anyway, Kobe is better than Wade and Gasol is better than Bosh.

that's a big maybe as in I doubt it. Kobe is Kobe, he would will himself to another 40/50/60 point streak just to make sure the Lakers at least got the 8th seed.....I don't see these slipping for many years.
