For what? Absolutely stupid if they do which I doubt they will. Doc is a better coach than most here give him credit for. He outcoached Phil for most of the series and if the Celts fire him best believe the Cavs would do a full court press on him. I think Doc will leave the team to chill w/ his fam like most in the press have been reporting.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Rivers step down and go back to broadcasting for a couple of years.

Doc is probably the best coach in the league. Not only for the Celtics, but what he did in Orlando was amazing. But I think this loss was too much. Hopefully he'll stick around in the league in some capacity.

If Doc Rivers leaves it will be on his own accord. I dont see a team firing a coach who took his team to game 7 of the NBA finals.

A while back, there was some talk from Doc about this being his last year as head coach with the Celtics.

    True...

A lot of people didn't think they would make it out of the first round....

why would they fire him? he did a superb job of coaching this team and if Perkins was out there for rebounding and Rasheed didn't become 90 years old in the second half, they might have won.

Now, we all know he may leave, but if I owned the Celts I would offer him a fat extension.

To rip off the Sports Guy, Boston never would have lost that game if Ray Allen was still alive

I think Doc will either walk to be with his family or stay with the team. Hopefully the second option. Doc was honestly a great coach during the playoffs. I hope everything goes well for him. The Celtics right now should be focussing on signing a great assistant coach like Thibs and getting new young talent.

I'm sure before he leaves his office for the season break, he's gonna hide a grand somewhere...

    Uh, no.

But he deserves more credit than he gets.

Rivers dragged an old battered team with a bad attitude to the finals. I'd bet no coach in the history of the NBA has been fired for bringing their team to the NBA Finals game 7

I like Doc. If only KG was not on his team, I would be rooting for the Celtics.

No Rivers isn't going to be fired. The Celtics are going to be beg him to stay. With Tom T. going to Chicago, they need him to stay. I saw Yahoo is reporting that Lawrence Frank will probably join their staff. I don't know if Rivers wants to come back right now. He has some kids to take care of and it's understandable.

Doc is a hell of a coach. Without him they wouldnt have made it this far and even with the big "three" they wouldn't have won a championship last time.

Why would they fire him? Sure their offense bogs down at times but they always play great defense, and a lot of the time, the offensive woes are not really his fault. It's not his fault Rondo can't shoot (even at 15 feet, which really crimps his halfcourt offense because I don't think any other point guard would be guarded like he was guarded), it's not his fault Ray Allen couldn't hit a jumper in Game 7 even though he was getting open off picks, including at the free throw line off down screens which should be easy money for him, it's not his fault Paul Pierce went entirely cold. The set plays I saw gave the Celtics good looks in Game 7, his guys couldn't knock them down.
