yes. eventually, roy oswalt will throw a no-hitter. lance berkman will hit a 1-run homer. and the Astros will win. otherwise, they're going to lose the rest of them. would anyone else agree with me that the Astros are going to continue scuffling along at around .500 until they get a new offense? their offense is supposed to be for hits. instead, it's just for s-hit.
If it happens tonight everyone outside the Houston city limits will be able to see it. The game is on WGN but it won't be on in Houston. No local TV

Hey all... I was at the game tonight against the Cubs, and to put it mildly... it was pathetic. Kerry Wood was not the dominating pitcher he occationally can be, and we couldn't hit him anyway. Bagwell's shoulder troubles are bothering him, Berkman couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, and Geoff Blum played right field all night (thank you Jimy). Was anyone surprised when he couldn't make the catch in the first inning that brought home those first two runs? He's a back up SS and 3B for cryin' out loud. The only bright spots were: 1. Nelson Cruz was lights out. 2. Ensberg's defense was STELLAR! He made one spectacular play and the next out he made was almost as pretty. 3. Julio Lugo continues to look like the hitter we hoped he would be last year. Other than that... miserable game! p.s. Is there any rumors about us trading for a true CF? Please tell me their is.... our defense in the outfield is attrocious.
what Major said. this is a miserable team to follow and to root for. I hope they strike. I hope they strike. I hope they strike. here's what I'm sick of seeing: Other Team Runs - 3 Hits - 5 Houston Astros Runs - 1 Hits - 8 I would love to see what our runs-to-hits ratio is and where it falls among league rankings [haven? where are you?]. I'd be willing to bet money that we're definitely not in the top half and are probably near the bottom of the league. I nominate the '02 Houston Astros: Worst Situational Hitting Team in the History of Ever!!!! what good is having great starting pitching when your offense BLOWS?
I nominate the '02 Houston Astros: Worst Situational Hitting Team in the History of Ever!!!! what good is having great starting pitching when your offense BLOWS? Agreed. Our problem is timing. When our pitching gives up 2 runs, our offense scores 1. When the pitching gives up 5, the offense scores 4. We've outscored opponents 222-204 for a 21-27 record. For comparison, Cincinnati has scored opponents 218-202 for a 29-20 record. Teams with similar records to ours (22-26): Pittsburgh has been outscored 210-168 Cleveland has been outscored 224-187 Oakland has been outscored 260-218 Every team in baseball that has outscored their opponents has a winning/break-even record. Every team in baseball that has been outscored has a losing record. We are the lone exception, and we're not even close to having a winning record. In conclusion, I repeat: we suck so bad we suck we suck we suck yes we do
Just to clarify... YES that bonehead Jimy Williams had Blum in right field and the first two runs the Cubs scored were a direct result of that. Sosa slammed a line drive to deep right center and Hidalgo DEFINATELY would have made the catch and so would Brian Hunter. Instead, it bounces off the wall and it takes Blum a good 15 seconds to find it stuck between the warning track and the bottom of the wall. With all of our hitting problems lately, how does being down two runs to start the game help?
Blum in right field? Thats peanuts. Now pitching your lefty specialist, who can't get righties out, against the best right handed hitter in the game? Thats why they pay Jimy the big bucks.

The Blum thing was wacky (he had never played RF in his mlb career before yesterday -- although he had played LF), but the Borbon thing was understandable, I think. The game was basically over. Cruz, Puffer, and Stone were used. Dotel was unavailable after pitching the last 3 games. Wagner sucked ass his last game (the night before). That left newly called up Jim Mann (who sucks) and Borbon. I think it was just a "let's get this game over with" kind of move.
In the interest of accuracy, McGriff hit the ball. Also, it only cost them one run since the runner from 3rd would have scored on the play anyway since it would have only been the 2nd out. It also took quite less than 15 seconds for him to find the ball. It may have seemed like 15 but it was probably 2.
Well, I said it'd happen today - I just didn't expect Carlos to get hammered like he did. Nice to see another team's bullpen choke down the stretch instead of the Astros'.
You need to start these threads earlier in the losing streak. That'll be happening from now on!! Most amazing about this win? Second time all year we've won a game after giving up 4 runs. Also amazing was that Carlos managed to give up only 5 runs on 13 freaking hits (and a walk).
Biggio is evil. From the Chron: Hanging upside-down from Craig Biggio's locker is his own bobble-head doll, only with a slight twist -- there's no head. "I just ripped it off after a while," Biggio said of his missing head. "It wasn't doing any good after awhile just hanging upside-down so I just took his head off about three days ago." Biggio offered no further explanation, Poor bobblehead. He should auction the head off on ebay.
well, I'm glad they won. I'm going to the game today, and it's nice to know that they're probably about the start a 9-game win streak. to be followed by a 12-game losing streak. to be followed by a 23-game winning streak. to be followed by a 47-game losing streak. to be followed. . . why do I somehow get the feeling that the universe is in perfect balance [no matter what the Jedi say] and that all is right and as it should be since the baseball team in Houston is the only one that could be outscoring its opponents and still have a losing record? only in Houston. . .
