Their pitching is not very good outside of Hernandez and Oswalt.

    And those 2 just lost...so......

I think the Stros are in deep doo doo.

The astros are in a slump. It's frustrating but its early.

    DaDakota,

The bullpen is bad, but our starting rotation has been fine.

If we hit at all this week, we are 3-2 and very easily 5-0.

I have a feeling they'll go undefeated the rest of the way.

    1. Lance Berkman will bat .942 with 92 homeruns and 179 RBI's.

    2. Julio Lugo will hit .788 with 56 homers and 111 RBI's.

Okay, okay. #2 just ruined it.

    geez, finalsbound. . .

you mean to tell me that lance berkman is going to hit .942 with 92 home runs, and he's STILL not going to break hack wilson's RBI mark?

    that would be really sad.

    Whew.

I wonder if Williams having a quick hook is hurting this team.

Dierker used to let the starters work their way out of trouble, because he knew they were his best pitchers.

I think Williams needs to do this a bit more.

there was a graphic on the post-game show yesterday i think, that showed williams has actually pitched his starters more this year than dierker in the same amount of innings last year. to me we'd have the same record even with dierker, it's been more of an offensive problem.

on that note, we had what 18 runs tonight.

    GO 'STROS!

I think a reason for the starting pitching innings between Dierker and Williams is that last year, in the same number of innings, Larry was pitching Scott Elarton, Kent Bottenfield, Jose Lima, Octavio Dotel, etc most games, and they were getting yanked because they were getting rocked, not because Larry was pulling them early. Williams seems to pull his pitchers when they are having a good game and have the energy and arm strength to go further, giving the pen a rest.

I don't think we will truly know how much effect Williams style will have until late in the season, when all the innings on the pen's arms will start to take its toll.

Redding is looking a lot better, could he be the answer for our long reliever spot when Miller gets back.

    Oswalt
    Hernandez
    Miller
    Reynolds
    Milicki

    That is not too bad....

Let's not overlook the fact that Mlicki's been pretty solid for the most part.

I don't know that Redding is suited to a relief role. If you notice, even in these games that he pitches well in, the runs he gives up, he gives up early. It is in the late innings that he settles down (if he settles down) and pitches well. That kind of pattern wouldn't be so great to have in relief.
