After watching this morning's game against China, I feel a little uncomfortable about Team USA. Sure they win by a big margin, but the way they played, their defense and even their mentality are still not good enough to beat teams like Argentina etc.
didn't get to watch the game yet, but i think they have a very good chance. it is by far not a foregone conclusion that they will win it all though. should this thread really be in the GARM?
They're good but won't win the gold. Greece is so much better....Spain....and Argentina. USA takes bronze.
Argentina is not playing well right now. I don't think they will pose much of a problem for Team USA if it continues. The only team that has a chance, I believe, is Spain because they are deep and balanced. I don't especially like how this Team USA is constructed. In having a top college coach you would think there would be a better offensive system in place than they have. All I see is a perimeter based offense. If they're jumpers aren't falling, against the better teams, they will be in trouble. They also gamble too much on defense. Better guards won't make the same mistake the Chinese guards did in over-penetrating. I think the jury is still out if Team USA can win it all. They have a shot on pure talent alone but I need to see them against a world class team and how they handle the zone.
US will win. kobe will just let others take the shine until they play a great team. then it's a wrap. he'll put on a show. kobe just jacking up mostly 3s now.
Argentina is looking in trouble. Luis had a disappointing game. 10 Points,6 rebounds,1 block,4-11 shooting,and 4 fouls. Almost all of their players shot poorly. Ginobili 6-15 for 19 points. I hope Luis will do better in the rest of the tournament.
The USA is built for the NBA game which is outside in.... The rest of the good teams are built for an inside out game. The USA's problem is when it meets up with a team that has good penetrating guards and good shooting bigs.... Because the USA has no one to guard that 7 foot 3 pt shooting player... DD
i'll say it this way: if team usa wins the gold, they haven't actually won it, it's more like the other teams have lost it. this team is nothing special despite the great names and great individual nba players. if a team like spain brings it's a game team usa will be in serious trouble. but it's not so easy, the other teams have to bring their a games first. team usa is still the team to beat. they aren't the best team (if you don't go by names and individual talent this is pretty obvious), though.
If Team USA doesn't win I would say Spain is probably the 2nd strongest team. Their Aug 16th showdown should be an incredible game to watch.
I think their built that way to counterattack the outside in style of international play. Less Duncan, more Bosh. Less true 4's, more Melo and Lebron. I think they could easily stick Lebron/Prince/Melo on a 7 footer who plays on the perimeter, the same way they do with Dirk in the NBA. I think this team has some serious holes...but their intentional and lets hope it works out.
USA has very good individuals that can win 1 on 5 almost every game.... ...almost. If opposing team stays close to the end than I expect trouble for team USA.
????? Whatever - the U.S. had amazing D today, when they decided to take over the game, they completely clamped down and make a joke of it. I don't think any team out there will come within 10 points this time around. This team represents a return to U.S. domination.
I think the USA will win. Their collection of individual talent is just too much for everyone else. I don't think China will get out of the first round...poor Yao.
They are always slow to start the games... It's not really the consistency of their game that makes them good, but rather the deep bench that lets Team USA outlast the other teams.
I do not feel the U.S will win the gold. Mainly, because the stars (lebron,Kobe, and Wade) are more interested in seeking a euro -league money making venture. These guys make hundreds of millions of dollars ,during a recession i might add, and all they have been quoted as saying is " Yeah, I'll leave the NBA for more money" I am really bothered by this
