They were buried two weeks ago 38-0 by USC. Tonight, they lost to Navy for the first time since 1963. During the press conference (see link below), Weiss got defensive when asked about the winning streak. He kept his composure but when he said, "the winning streak doesn't mean anything to me", he demonstrated a disconnect that could make boosters angry. Because Weiss is overbearingly arrogant and I'm a typical native Hoosier who dislikes everything about Notre Dame, it's a perfect match. For me, this 1-8 season is one for the ages.

Do you think Weiss should return next year? It goes without saying the guy will be back. But after this year's disaster, I'm not sure he deserves to stay. I want him back because I don't think he has what it takes to lead them to long term success. Being a great strategist is fine for an offensive coordinator in the NFL, but it takes a lot more than that to win every year at a major university. Mack Brown is notoriously weak on Xs and Os but he is a leader who can recruit and guide the corporation known as UT football to 10 wins every year. Before he took the Notre Dame job, Weiss didn't realize a high IQ wouldn't get him very far without the other stuff. As with Gerry Faust, I hope he stays a long time by winning just enough to keep his job.

he sure as hell wont deserve it, but he'll be back next year for sure. but the domers are possibly the worst D1 team right now, and that is completely inexcusable for a program like notre dame.

and they just further solidify how big of a joke the preseason rankings are in college football.

I can think of 21 Million reasons he'll be back next year and the year after that.

He should have to go coach in the WAC.

I guess all those people putting his bust in the hall of fame the past two years can finally go take it out.

Not only will he be back. He will still be highly touted and most likely pursued by NFL teams in a situation that resembles Iowa's head coach. And I do think he can recruit. Notre Dame will be fine. They just need personnel that can execute. And it will come.

Jimmy Clausen must be kicking himself for going to Notre Dame over Southern Cal.

Gosh, I hope he's back. I can't stand ND. I've loved watching this meltdown. Let it continue.

Why? USC is probably set for the next 3 years with Sanchez and Mustain.

Yeah, you seem to hate a lot of teams in different sports.

    It's very healthy...

This is his 3rd season. Where are the juniors and sophomores? Last year, Quinn and Samardzija were Willingham's recruits. It's hard for me to not blame this season completely on Weiss' inability to recruit.

That's true. I do. Part of the fun...create "pretend" bad guys based on history, rivalry and reputation. Makes it a lot more fun when your team or typically-severe underdogs (like Navy) win. Because they're not just winning but vanquishing evil. Certainly beats fighting wars.

Well, they wouldn't have gone after Mustain if they had Clausen and he would be able to sit and learn instead of being beaten into a pulp like he has been at Notre Dame. Not to mention the weather in Southern California is much nicer than South Bend.

He will be back because ND is racist.

I sure hope he returns. The only thing I love more than ND losing, is Texas winning.

    Thanks.

I agree to an extent. But ND's depth was always bad. Weiss IMO should get credit for putting Quinn in a role to succeed, he was horrible under Willingham. And Samardzija? He was what... 7th on the depth chart and thinking of quitting the team. Weiss put him on the field. This year he brought ion the best QB possible, next year another elite 11 QB will be coming. The recruits will come.
