Sheed wants to sign with New York and reportedly said he would take their MLE to do so. However, if the Rockets offer to CTC for more, he might be tempted. Knowing how surly he was with the low key Portland media ("Both teams played hard"), how will he react to the NY media?
First of all, I dont think Wallace will stay in Detroit. Detroit is just renting him now. There just isnt any room for Rasheed in Detroit with Ben Wallace, Okur and Darko. I think the Pistons will look to try to S&T him to get something. But I don't think he will be sign and traded to a team in the east as I dont think Detroit would want to help their eastern conference competition. That means I think he will be sent WEST. I think Wallace will follow the money. If he can get something above MLE money on a contending team or an up and coming team I think he will jump at it. The Rockets having the 6.9M TE definitely can be players here. Could the Rockets offer the Pistons their 6.9m TE + a 2005 1st rounder for him? I think after the 2004 draft we are eligible to trade next years pick. That way Detroit gets something in the S&T (1st rounder) and doesn't have to take back salary because of the TE. Unless Wallace is dead set on NY and the MLE, I dont see how NY will get him and I doubt the Pistons would help our their competition!
I don't understand this trade thing. But if Rasheed is a free agent this season, why does he has to abide by the rule of sign and trade with the Pistons. In other word, why does he has to cooperate with the Pistons. Can't he just leave where ever he wants to go to and forget about the sign and trade??
Half of Detroit's coaching staff was on the UNC staff when Rasheed was there and Larry Brown is always around the UNC guys in the offseason. Sheed's agent also said Detroit was a great situation for Rasheed and whatever was said in the past (about Sheed wanting to be in NY) can change.
I thought there was some rule that you can't trade a player until a certain number of days after they were traded before, isn't it like 60 days or something?
Rasheed is an unrestricted FA and can go anywhere he wants...for MLE $. If he wants more, there are 2 options. Sign with an under the cap team for more than MLE $ or SnT. The SnT dynamic starts with... 1A) Does DET want to re-sign Wallace? 1B) Does Wallace want to return to the Pistons? If both are true then... 2A) How much is DET offering? 2B) Is DET's offer enough to interest Wallace? If there is a disconnect between what Wallace wants and what the Pistons will offer, the two parties can agree to SnT. From Rasheed's standpoint...it's a combination of $ and wanting to play for the new team. From the Pistons perspective, do they want the incoming contracts for whatever Wallace agrees to moneywise?
Only applies if the player is combined with another player. Wallace was not included with any other Hawks' player.
Why the heck wouldn't he stay? Detroits a pretty sweet situation for him. Strong supporting cast, it's in the East, great coach, and a good city. Where else would be better? I'm pretty excited to watch and see how he does. They could compete with some west teams now. Moreso then Indiana in my opinion.
I thought this is all about the Rockets. Why do we see thiskind of thread here. Anyways, I think if the team shows progress until the playoff, they would resign him. Or trade him for better deal.
I think Wallace will re-sign with Detroit and that Okur will go elsewhere. And, since we can't offer Okur more than the MLE and can't give him more than early-bird money in a S&T, we won't be able to get him either. But, it'll all be for the best because Wallace is a cancer and Okur won't be worth his next contract. Imo.
