I believe Perry is gearing up for a run in 2012 or at least an exploratory committee. Do you think he could grab the republican nomination if he decided to run?
of course he is running - he is about to embark on a book tour for his new one "fed up" - he even plugged it in his speech after he won the other day. i doubt that just came to him spontaneously. he is also supposedly going to be on the jon stewart show pretty soon. also notice that his texas 'accent' seemed to be much heavier than normal. i heard the audio before seeing the video and i initially thought it was bush. this entire video is full of douchetacular win! <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NY3dajhcT8E?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NY3dajhcT8E?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Of course he is. He has proven over and over (to anyone who will spend five minutes of analysis or even half-hearted observation) that his number one goal is the advancement of Rick Perry and Rick Perry's ego. He cares not one lone star for Texas or its people. Another fake Texas accent headed for DC. Blech
Perry would get absolutely slaughtered in a general election. Corruption scandal after corruption scandal with flip flops on all sorts of Conservative issues. He wouldnt make it out of the primary.
I have no idea if he'll but, I don't think there's anyway he wins. If I'm him, I'm probably angling for a VP spot with a more rational top line candidate. What he can effectively be is Palin without the baggage. He's a tea party darling and good at firing up the crazies, so he can play that role extremely well - but he doesn't have the massive level of stupidity of Palin or the baggage of having quit as governor mid-term, etc.
High bar you're setting there... and I didn't compare their governorships, I commented on how he seems to be more like him with each appearance. And then there's the whole "W appointed Perry" thing.
He will, and he'll lose, or get on as VP (barf). When he loses, he'll probably wait a few years and go after a Senate seat, assuming Cornyn or KBH retire.
No way. He knows he is not that popular (didn't he win with less than 40% of the vote in his previous re-election?). Considering Bush is still very unpopular, being the Governor of Texas and following in W.'s footsteps so to speak is not working in his favor. He has been governor for a long time, there is a reason he has not even considered running for president yet, even in the early stages.
he looks younger than bush and his state came out on top during the recession. does he unjustly get credit for that? yes. will it matter to the voters? probably not
Not like we'd be any better off with the alternative (David Dewhurst) and then we'd be stuck with the potential for another repub to be in office for 14 years. I'd rather Perry just finish out his term at this point.
You might not believe this, but we'd be vastly better off with Dewhurst, a multimillionaire who's not in the game to make money, unlike Governor Goodhair. Dewhurst's biggest problem is he lets himself get pushed around.
