Many 'experts' have, for some time now, been stating that whichever team makes the playoffs will also ensure that their respective rookie wins the Rookie of The Year Award. I personally think that that is just a by-product of the circumstance...Were one team well in the playoffs, or were they each from a different conference, this would never have been a real issue. The coincidence that they were each on teams competing with each other for the 8th spot made it seem like it was relevant. That said, it has been said enough times for people to believe it...even reporters. And there is also that latent anti-Yao feeling that was so evident early on in the year, and we all know how much reporters enjoy being wrong. So I ask you, will missing the playoffs cost Yao the Rookie of The Year Award?
No. He should win it. He has been the best rookie. He has been the Rookie of the Year. Just too sad the rest of his team...
YES, it will COST Yao Why? b/c if PHX gets in, that's an extra few games Amare has to show a NATIONAL audience his impact and talent. While Amare may not be credited with getting his team into the playoffs, there is definitely plenty he can display if PHX ends up playing Dallas or SA. Either way, that's more stage time for Amare and less for Yao and Yao will be compared to former ROYs like Duncan who had a much larger statistical and playoff impact than Yao in their rookie years. I want Yao to win, but we need the Rox to get into the playoffs to solidify those odds. theSAGE
nobody cares about ROY. do u see anyone ever mention Francis winning the ROY anymore Hakeem never won ROY Maybe Yao can follow that path. Frankly I hope Amare gets it So Yao can realize he has to become a better player. I don't understand why he dosen't just scream at Steve and Cuttino for the ball. Lets see Steve shooting over Stockson ( one of the smartest defender ever to play) or Yao shooting over Ostertag.
Yao's play lately shows that he doesn't deserve the ROY. He folded when the playoff is on the line, and so did the rest of the Rockets. Give it to Amare, I don't care...
Yao's the ROY. Him not playing well down the stretch can't change that. Actually it's somewhat expected. You simply can't expect a rookie to carry the whole team down the stretch. Amare didn't play well for the Suns either but they kept winning. Why? They have Marbury and Marion to step it up while we have Francis and Mobley to stink up the joint. Actually while we are at it, Marbury + Marion > Francis + Mobley So it's no surprise that Suns > Rockets You are only as good as your best players. Can't we just accept that the Suns are better than the Rockets?
Given the results announced today, and the reasoning given for Amare winning, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at what we thought before it happened...
