I don't believe this has been brought up yet, but the Mihm haters will be able to see exactly what he can do tonight and what he can do to a team with no center, in other words about 80% of the league. ------------------ In the end there will be no judges...only witnesses to my greatness.
Mihm is soft, he may develop, but his attitude is not one of a warrior who hates to lose. He may end up being an ok player, but he will never be a SuperStar NBA player. DaDakota ------------------ If Mankind evolved from Monkeys and Apes, then why are there still Monkeys and apes?
He should have stayed at UT. ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
...for at least 3 or 4 more years...HE'S WEAK!!! ------------------ C-son ______________ "If you wanna feel funky feel free, but please don't get the funk on me."
Lil Francis - 100% agree. He has 203 NBA minutes (50 more than Collier). He would easily have half again those minutes in college. The Horns are 9-2 without him. They would have been an almost a sure bet for the Elite 8 with him. I am not worried about Cato or 'Los, but hope he doesn't have a career game against Mo! ------------------ GATER
Am I the only person here who wished that Mihm had slipped to number 9 in the last draft? [This message has been edited by Cat5 (edited January 02, 2001).]
How much would Mihm have made at UT this year, and how would that have helped his pro game? ------------------
Yahoo says Mo is starting vs Mihm ------------------ "Its a good thing they don't make posters of European players" -Walt Williams after getting "posterized" by Zan Tabak .
Moe- So it's all about the money and nothing else? Well then think about this. He dropped to 8. How much did he lose by not being a Top 5? He would have been a Top 3 next year with any kind of college season. Stromile Swift makes $1.3M MORE than Mihm this year alone. So instead of $1.9M (8th Pick), he would make $3.2M next year as a #2. IMO, playing major minutes at UT has more upside than backing up Zydrunas Illgauskas. ------------------ GATER
"He would have been a Top 3 next year with any kind of college season." I wrote an article on this recently on draftsource.net, and I think the decision was a smart one. To expect Mihm to jump into the top 3 in an insanely deep draft like 2001 is unrealistic. Kirk Bohls wrote an article on this last season and his line of reasoning was something like "Who would stop Mihm from being #1 Haywood?". Ya sure, if you ignore a bunch of other major prospects and focus on Haywood the overrated, no footwork, stumbling oaf. The greater likelihood would have been Mihm dropping unless he had an absolute knock out season which wasnt happening considering the ridiculous zone defenses that are allowed in college. Mihm is going to be a good center in the NBA, 17-8 type player or so, but I dont think anyone expected superstar potential. He wont be on the level of Shaq, Zo or Duncan but a notch below which is still VERY respectable and not Jon Koncak. I bleed as much burnt orange as any other Longhorn fan on this site, but I will never begrudge someone making the intelligent decision. It would take a very strange turn of events for Mihm to be drafted ahead of the likes of Curry, Chandler, Woods, Griffin, Wallace, Randolph, etc. He's good but not that good. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
Even though Mihm had a career night, Carlos was the one using him and anyone else guarding him. I like the hustle Los provided tonight. He was very active and I hope Rudy will give him some minutes now. ------------------ Rockets Season Ticket Holder
MManal - We'll have to disagree on the Mihm issue. Unfortunately, I do begrudge him the early entry. I think the Horns with Mihm were very likely a Final Four team. I find it difficult to imagine that the current Lottery Top 3 - (Chicago, Washington, and Vancouver) would take high schoolers and players in positions where they're already overstocked before a Final 4 Center. I think Mihm's decisions was very short-sighted and one he'll regret in about 15 years. To paraphrase the commercial - # 8 pick - $1.9M......#2 pick - $3.2M......Senior memories, Elite 8 appearance, UT BBall Legend status - PRICELESS! ------------------ GATER
Gater, He won't regret it at all, he will be a Free Agent one year earlier, and he can MORE then make up for any lose in his first contract. Mihm played well, but he is still soft. DaDakota ------------------ If Mankind evolved from Monkeys and Apes, then why are there still Monkeys and apes?
GATER, We'll agree to disagree, but I want to make last point on this issue. First off, thinking there is no way HS players go top 3 is old age thinking. NBA GMs are now viewing that drafting process differently after watching Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett go to the top of the NBA and watching players like Jermaine O'Neal and Rashard Lewis prove themselves to be more worthy than their selection down the line. The big evidence of that was the selection of Darius Miles in the top 3 this summer despite the fact that many felt he needed time to develop with work his jump shot and body. Also, there is no guarantee that those 3 teams you listed will pick top 3 b/c there is a thing called the lottery and almost every yr it seems some team breaks into it. Lets suppose hypothetically the Bulls and Grizz picked top 3; your assumption is that they wouldnt roll the dice on a less develop player..... If there was some great chance of Chicago or Vancouver taking Mihm, they would have done it last yr in a much less talented draft pool. Instead, they went for dowm the line picks with Swift and Crawford. What makes you all of a sudden think they would pass EVEN BETTER prospects like Curry and Chandler? On the NCAA tourney argument. Basing your decision on the hopes of making it far one season is totally and completely short sighted. Its very easy to have one bad evening and get knocked out; you dont risk your entire NBA career on that. Plus, have you seen how totally and completely erratic the new Longhorns are? I absolutely love their potential, but they are too erratic even with Mihm to have made some serious noise this yr. The major problem last yr was that Darren Kelly, Ivan Wagner etc could not get the ball to Mihm enough for him to be able to dominate games, its not softness its the ZONE. All of a sudden you think young, inexperienced guards like Ivey, Mouton, Williams, etc would have magically been able to have patience do that in their FRESHMAN years and not get off track into their own freelancing? Come on now. Take off your burnt orange sun glasses and look at this in an objective manner. I love the Horns as much as anyone else; I am a student at UT and absolutely love watching them but when you weigh all the alternatives, Mihm did well going pro. If you still think Mihm would go ahead of Curry, Chandler, Woods, Griffin, Wallace, Boozer, Randolph, etc you can keep believing that, but take off the orange tinted glasses and you will see that is completely far fetched. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
