Mill Mcgrady be a JVG kinda guy?

I think it's safe to assume this deal is gonna get done. All the signs are there save an Elliot for Horry type scenerio where Elliots' kydney problems scared off the Rockets last minute - it's all but done.

What I wonder is how JVG will best utilize Mcgrady? I think JVG will have to get out of his typical mindset here - can he? Reviews on Tmac's defense seem mixed at best.

Surely playing for JVG has entered TMacs mind, yet he says wants to be here.

Tough to tell. But all season long JVG raved about how Kobe plays. And McGrady plays in a similar way. I really feel that JVG will love having McGrady's talents at his disposal! I have a feeling that next year McGrady's defense will really improve, as did Mobley's and Francis'.

And you know what? If McGrady doesnt turn out to be a JVG guy, the smart money says that it will be JVG that gets canned, not McGrady. If we can't get a coach in here to harness the potential of McGrady and Yao then we have a problem!

Their plays are similar barring their defense.

Agreed, Kobe is the better defender. But I believe that Tmac has a lot to prove this year. And Kobe has ALWAYS had Shaq behind him. Let's give Tmac a chance to have Yao behind him and give Tmac some time to learn JVG's defensive system and see where he stands after that. If Francis' and Mobley's defense improved under JVG, just imagine how much Tmac could improve with his raw skills and 6'8" height!

    Will McGrady still be McGrady
    or
will he turn into Allan Houston
    or
    Latrelle Spreewell

I think his defense will improved
    his offense will suffer

Overall . .we will be ok

his #s may go down, might not. but turn into Houston or Spree? He's got way more game then both those guys ever did. No disrespect to those guys but T-Mac is one of the best offensive players in the league hands down.

I think he's proven scoring titles dont fill the void of winning.
He'll totally buy into Van Gundy's defense.
As far as stealing the ball goes he is a little under bryant but not by much.
But where he totally surpasses bryant is blocking shots.
Expect Mcgrady and Yao to control the paint as far as blocking shots.
Our interior defense is going to be so much better.
We have some the best trainers in the league , I expect he'll get stronger.

Jordan didn't put on muscle till about around 27.
What people dont realize is the East coast is much more fierce as far as defense is concerned.

tmac can be a lock down defender. he has great lateral movement, length and quickness. JVG must be salivating. pair him up with dfish and fish, tmac and jjackson will be a formidable perimeter defense.

I think T-Mac will be a very good defender for us in the Ben Wallace or KG mold, someone who roams around to pick up blocks and steals. KG's able to play that way because of the zone Minny plays, Ben Wallace because of the terrific on the ball defenders he's had in Cliffy Robinson and 'Sheed. Since Jeff will never play a zone, expect a player along the lines of a Bruce Bowen or Trent Hassell to be a Rocket next season

As long as McGrady works hard to win, he'll be a JVG player.

    No.

But when JVG is fired for bombing out next year...

McGrady will stay here and blossom under a new coach.

If T-Mac goes back to putting the effort into playing good defense then he and JVG will be fine.

JVG has proven he is unable to adjust his offensive schemes to best utilize his players. The sub-80 point games will continue, and there will not be enough baskets to go around.

Remind us how the JVG led Knicks made it to the finals. Did they have overwhelming talent that overcame an innapropriate system?
