Well, Weatherspoon has yet to play, I bet Van Gundy is wishing he didn't force that trade because I'm sure by now he would have played at least one minute.
I hope not. There will be a flock of new members, MJOF, to start bashing our SF. Oops, I almost forgot. Our adminstrator has already closed our door to anymore _OF.
MJ is here to teach, his playing career is done. Don't be surprised to see him as an assitant next year.
He's watching now, and probably getting in shape. I don't discount his value to the Rockets. He will be a great asset in his wealth of knowledge and experience. If he is still able to bring it on the court, I expect him to be paired up with Yao a lot especially if they get the lob pass and catch routine down well.
My god; I put MJ in late on ESPN NBA and he sucked. Within 20 seconds he had 3 turnovers and was WELL short on his perimeter shots.
I'm pretty sure even the computer programmers think he's done too. I think he's got something to prove to everyone. He's not ready to retire yet.
The guy is old and hasn't played all season, he definitely needs some time to get back in shape. He's also learning how the Rockets play. However, the Grizzlies went on a 7-0 run when Steve sat out early in the 4th, JVG better think of something fast.
MJ will play. He is still getting in game shape. What we saw last night, with Yao and SF out at the same time, should not happen any more once MJ is ready to play. We will be able to rest SF and Yao separately and still be effective offensively. Mark will give SF rest when he needs it, but hopefully not when Yao is out.
He said he's received several inquiries about coaching positions, but wasn't ready to hang up his uniform just yet. He signed with us for a chance to play, not just teach. Don't get me wrong, one of his assets is his expetise and playing experiences he can share with the rest of the guys, but he's not expecting to just sit on the end of the bench and give the players some pointers. He probably still needs to get in game shape before he gets out on the court.
He's not ready for retirement - he's ready to be embalmed. It's truly sad that about the only two guys in the entire universe who don't know this is JVG and CD.
The only problem is that only about 1/3 of the Rockets pick and roll's are traditional pick and roll's. The vast majority are screen and fade and the first option is the guard. Van Gundy talked about this several weeks ago when he said, "Steve and Cat are always the first option off the screen."
The guy needs to practice with the team a little bit at least. Run up and down the floor a bit and get to know the guys. You can't just throw him to the wolves.......or the Grizzlies.
