people may think i'm a lebron fan (i do love watching him play), but it's near that time of the year when MVP talks are starting to heat up. so opinions are welcome. Pros for Lebron: 1) he has the best statline in the league once again (along with best PER) 2) he is putting up the best statline despite playing with 2 other all-stars 3) best player in the league on a top 3 team (when the reg. season is over) 4) most versatile player in the L; he has done most for his team in terms of having to play all 5 positions, and play well Cons for Lebron: 1) he is playing with 2 other all-stars, one of them a top 5 player in wade 2) the media may still hold that "quitness" label that was tagged upon lebron 3) it's time to give the MVP to another player but this may be biased, but he IS the best player in the L and on his own team, and his team IS a top 3 team in the L. derrick rose's efficiency is taking a huge hit the past few weeks. but considering injuries, and how the bulls are still winning, he's either 1 or 2 right now. howard is rising up the list with his ridiculous play. manu (i think it's actually parker but the media is putting manu) for the league-leading spurs i think the MVP is and will be a 3-man race: rose, lebron, howard. nobody will come close. i think at the end, it's b/t rose and lebron. it's rose to lose, IF he keeps his statline up and the bulls keep winning. everybody loves rose right now.
Lebron will get close, voters will see what a mess the cavs are without him, which will help his chances. Plus he is playing at a MVP level. Derrick Rose will be the dark horse, as the bulls are playing great.
That's all well and good, but when Lebron was out the Heat started sucking. And when Wade and/or Bosh is out, Lebron can still squeeze out wins for the Heat. I despise Lebron's character but he has serious game, more than I thought as I've watched the Cavs flounder and the Heat underperform when he's not on the court. I wouldn't feel he's undeserving if he gets the MVP again. That said, Rose is indeed incredibly valuable to his team, more than Dwight is to Orlando IMO, though he might not get recognized for it. I agree that he should be strongly considered.
Lebron should get it but Chris Paul will...You talk about Most Valuable...Look at that Hornet team...They are terrible on paper but CP3 gets the most out of them....He should be rewarded because he was robbed a few years ago...Rose has to wait his turn...
It will come down to what definition the majority of voters use for MVP. I think Lebron has shown himself to be the best player in the league, but he's clearly not the most valuable to his team. His team would most likely still be in the playoffs without him. Chicago, Orlando, and New Orleans are all winning at close to the same clip as Miami, but they would be complete garbage without their #1 guys.
...aside from the fact Lebron isn't the overwhelming best player out there this year(Rose, Howard, and CP3 are all having great years and don't forget Durant who appears to be back on track to finish close to what he did last year when he was 2nd in MVP voting), the fact voters are less inclined to repeatedly cast a vote for the same person year after year, and you gotta think there are still some lingering post Decision bad sentiment that will prevent him from at least a few votes....I think this will not be an MVP year for Lebron. ....if I had to cast a pick for the most valuable player to both his team and the league, I would say it's Blake Griffin. I know he has no shot(although ROY is his) but to me he has not only made an entire nearly defunct franchise instantly relevant, but he has been a complete game changer for the league. He's doing stuff in his rookie year that only a handful of the absolute best players of all time did....and on that note - Kevin Love should be getting more respect. I bet he doesn't get more than 5 votes in the MVP race and there is a good chance he doesn't even make the All Star team, but he is quietly on track to do things with his shooting and rebounding that literally no one in NBA history has done.
There is no way in hell that Griffin deserves to even be considered for MVP. You do realize the 'V' stands for 'Valuable,' right? How can Griffin be the most valuable player in the league when his team is on pace to win about 4 more games than they did without him last year? MVPs should generally also not be complete liabilities on one side of the ball.
You are way over-rating Griffin. He's an exciting player, but the Clippers are still lotto-bound; they are relevant only insofar as they get SC highlights. Do you think the Clippers would have the record they have if they had Lebron James instead of Grffin? And, he isn't doing anything revolutionary in the league either. He is a PF version of Half-Man Half-Amazing Vince Carter. Carter was a good player and an exciting player, but he didn't have any kind of lasting impact on the league; nothing yet indicates that Griffin will be any different.
I think its between Stoudemire and Rose. Both have made huge strides in their game and huge improvements on their teams
This is what I hate the most. DUR HURR LET'S GIVE IT TO SOMEONE ELSE JUST FOR THE SAKE OF IT...CAN'T HAVE THESE NEW GUYS BREAK OLD LEGENDS' RECORDS... Nash got robbed. Yes I mad
How are the Hornets terrible? They have one of the best frontcourts in the league, a decent bench, and they play great defense.
Agreed. The Knicks won't finish in the top five record-wise but Amare's value to that team is undeniable. To go from 29 wins last year to 45-50 wins is really quite remarkable. Same with Rose and the 15 win or so improvement they're projected to have. I'd rather see the league mix up a bit than go with a safe choice like LeBron.
Haters faint. Yes, he should win his third straight. People call him selfish for whatever reasons but he would be winning MVP award after MVP award if he had stayed in Cleveland.
The fact Lebron can play PF and score 30 10 rebs, play PG score 30 10 assits, and play sf and get 30 10rebs10assist, shows how vauable he is to the heat, and a big reason why they are winning. No other player in the league can do that, and the voters will see that.
