AUSTIN, Texas — A former teammate of Lance Armstrong's has reportedly told federal investigators that widespread use of performance-enhancing drugs on the U.S. Postal Service team was done with Armstrong's knowledge and encouragement.

The New York Times reported in Thursday editions that the cyclist, who was identified only as a former Armstrong teammate, backed up claims by Floyd Landis that the Postal Service team engaged in systematic doping.

The cyclist told the newspaper he had spoken with federal investigators looking into doping in professional cycling. Special agent Jeff Novitzky of the Food and Drug Administration is leading the probe, which is focused on a sport that Armstrong once dominated with seven Tour de France victories.

Armstrong has strongly denied any allegations he took performance enhancing drugs

I do hope that he will be brought to justice. He is the most egregious liar in the history of sports. Yes, they probably all cheat. But the vigorousness and the way he mercilessly threatened and bullied his "enemies" (those who spoke the truth, like LeMond and Landis) make him deserve what he has coming for him.

If he did, he did a masterful job at not getting busted with the scrutiny he was under.

That said, it wouldn't surprise me.

Why must you Germans go so crazy with everything having to do with France? The war is over SJC - France is NOT YOURS.

At least Landis has come clean. Hell, Marion Jones did come clean (and went to jail). Armstrong has no humility. He acts like he can terrorize those who speak the truth. He pretty openly threatened them, too. Come on, everyone knows it by now, even his fans. I guess some don't care because he is Texan/American, so they close their eyes and ears. I can sort of relate to that, I didn't want to believe it about Ullrich at first either. You could always argue (and probably rightly so, even though some might use more advanced methods than others) that if all of them dope, it's a level playing field, but that doesn't change the bullying tactics employed by Armstrong and his people. It's like the freaking Mafia!

No German poster #1115 -- Landis got busted, lost all his money, and started selling insider information.

Armstrong has managed to keep up his lies despite overwhelming evidence of contrary. We will see what happens now that a proven investigator is on his case.

without physical evidence, it's all just hearsay. if you have a hundred people say he did it without any corroborating physical evidence, then what good does it do? all he has to do is continue denying it.

it's also a pretty rotten deal that these people are coming out of the woodwork now. it's hard to lend credibility to people who either got busted for it and/or didn't come forward sooner.

i don't see anything coming of it...even if they all get on the stand and testify they swear it is true. i think lance would have to confess to it or there needs to be a smoking gun to prove he did it.

You know what will happen? Nothing. We take pride in our athletes, especially the ones who dominate in international competition so don't expect the U.S. to help your cause.

agree, i used to look up to him even if he regularly gives this arrogant vibe. he did go through alot though....but if he cheated, i like to see him brought to justice too. cheaters should NEVER prosper. it would be a sad story ....

I'm not saying Lance didn't cheat (I don't know but it doesn't look good).

I'm saying that you using Landis and Jones as examples of people coming clean isn't apples to apples. They were busted and had no choice. Landis is doing this to sell books and settle an old score. Those two were not people who felt the guilt from cheating and decided to "come clean"

The Postal Service is doping up? I know they work at the pace of a snail, but I didn't know they needed roids. :(
