He is 54 away. Maybe he plays two more years. If he can hit 27 during the next two seasons, that puts him at the 500 mark.
I hope he can do it with the Astros. If not, I'm sure he could pull it off DH'ing for a season or two in the AL when he is done in Houston.
If he stays healthy, I'd say there's about a 70% chance he gets there in the next two years. There was talk that 500 wasn't going to be a magic # anymore, but now that the juice will hopefully be taken care of, it will return that number to the special prominence it deserves.
That lingering shoulder injury will make it tough for him...he's gonna be a more singles hitter as his career winds down. So who wants open another thread about Biggio's chances at 3,000 hits...edit: oops, I didn't look further down the page, just saw it...
The funny thing is that 2 years ago I had NO doubt he would make it. It'll be close. I think that he can probably do it.
The shoulder isn't getting any better, but it also isn't getting any worse than it's been the last 2 years. He has said all along that he'll play out this contract, through 2006, and make a decision there. My guess is that if he has 500 at that point, he will definitely retire. If he's close, I still think he leaves. That said, I don't see any reason why he can't average 27 homeruns over the next 2 seasons. As long as he has the Crawford Boxes for 81 games, he has a chance.
Agreed,I think the gameplan is get it as an Astro, then retire.I'm not so sure about his shoulders holding up very much longer though....but yes,I think he gets it.
No doubt in my mind he'll make it. Though it will be close. His last 3 years homerun count is 31, 39, 27. So he just has to average what he did last year, which i believe he suffered the most pain since the shoulder problems began. I'm sure he's rehabing it better after last season since he had his worst batting average in his entire career.
i think he'll get there but either way there should be no question he's a hall of famer. of course dominique wilkins can't get into the basketball hall of fame which is considerably more lenient so who knows what people vote for.
The Stros' will have Bags around two more years specifically for the 500 HR's...I would doubt the same for Biggio's 300 hits...He's still productive and could do it...
He's a lock for the 500 club. A guy with his swing, eye and number of at bats could get 40 homers in the next two season with ease... especially with 162 games over the next two seasons in Minute Made Park. We're stuck with him for at least the next two seasons, so he might as well give us something to remember him by other then us paying him his extremely heavy-ended contract.
With ease? The guy hasn't had a 40 home run season in 5 years. Granted, he's had two 39 homer seasons during that span. I just don't think there is any reason to suspect his numbers will get better. I think 28-32 are reasonable expectations for him at this point. Unless you meant he could get 40 total over the next two seasons, then yeah I totally agree with him getting that with ease. I think he's capable of getting 54 over the next two seasons to reach 500, but in my opinion Baggy's 40 HR seasons are behind him.
Yeah, I meant over the next two seasons... we're stuck paying him 33+ million, might as well make himself useful!
