he should be there, although he will have fierce competition. Raja bell, Mike Miller, Gilbert Arenas, Korver (?) should all be there, along with some superstar names (Arenas is already one): Dirk, last years champion, Billups (?), Ray Allen will be invited but not sure will he shoot. Anybody else you can think of?
I dont think Luther will do good in it. If u watch his shots, he jumps to highest point and kinda foward to shoot the ball, looks like it takes a lot energy and preperation, not effortless like other shooters. hes a good shooter but i dont think he can shoot consective 25 shots with a good %.
probably accurate. usually the winners of the 3 point contest are bigger guards that can just fling their shots up there repeatedly. 3 point contest isn't just about makes unfortunately it's about endurance, strength, as well as speed. I hope he does well, I don't think he'll win though.
I am not worried about Head. He's already a proven clutch 3-point shooter. I'd like to see Novak competing in the contest. Maybe winning the title in All-Star 3-point shooting would convince JVG yet again Novak is serviceable if the kid's role is properly defined by his head coach.
You can't really take jump shots for the three point contest. It will wear you out, so I am not sure if Luther's shooting style would fit in the contest.
Good point. Head jumps towards the basket when shooting the three, and he has a lot of motion during shooting (helps with getting fouled on a 3-pt attempt I guess), there's no way he will be able to finish all the balls in one minute. Have you seen Quentin Richardson shooting threes? It's like a shooting free throws stance, his feet don't leave the floor and he does it so effortlessly!
i agree with the thoughts. But realize that Ray Allen jumps relatively high and forward with every shot and then always has to reset. It can be done. However, his shot is picture perfect and doesn't take as much upper body effort. But just saying...don't count Luther out.
I wouldn't mind seeing Head in the contest. Although I don't think he would win even if he was in it. I think Steve Novak should be in it as well. I think he has a higher chance in winning over Head. Novak did win the college 3pt shootout if I remember correctly. Novak should at least consider it.
It's not Novak's choice to "consider it". He has a better shot, but he has barely done it in any NBA games. Without any NBA history of shooting it (either in the contest or in games), he's not gonna go.. he'll have his shot one day.
He's not gonna go on his own volition or he's not allowed to participate due to long-held practice in NBA or some specific rules/policy in place? Would you please elaborate, if possible with links to such rules/policy? I am kinda curious.
I don't know how he'll do overall, but I think he'll make all the shots he takes in the last 5 seconds of each round.
I guess it would be the NBA that selects the people who are in the competition (Slam Dunk, Three point, Rookie) and with Three point contest, I would hazard a guess that they pick the players with the most three pointer made up till the All-Star break, it's the most logical one anyway. Novak has only made 6 three pointers compared to Head's 75, Arenas' 97, and others.
That's a very reasonable explanation, thanks. But what if Novak walked straight into NBA headquarters, and pleaded to Stu Jackson: "Veep, I know I haven't made enough 3s so far in the season to qualify for this little child's play in the All-Star game. But that's not my fault, Van Dummy screwed me, you know it, I know it, everybody knows it. Please, make an exception and give me a chance to prove I am the best and purest shooter in the league and Van Dummy is wrong for not playing me properly."
LOL. That would be great, but it'll be better if he drops in from the ceiling and pushes the player on the court outta the way and says "This is my court." Then he starts shooting and makes all his shots, one from halfcourt.
He will because he made 3rd most treys this season so far and never attened the contest. But I am all for his skipping it and flying under the radar. The last thing we want is that the whole league knows he is a great 3p shooter, and takes away the wide open treys he gets now. I know I worry too much sometimes.
