For those not in the know, one of the hottest and best boxing weight classes is currently is the Junior Flyweight division. This also happens to be my favorite boxing division at the moment. Tonight, this is going to be a war!

Calderon is probably the most skilled boxer in this division, but Segura is a beast on a mission. Don't miss this one, if you're a boxing fan!

Come on fellows, if you are on the fence about boxing and you only watch when it is Pacman, I implore you to give this division a shot. Ivan Calderon is one of the greatest pure boxers in the history of this sport, facing his most dangerous opponent ever in Segura. This fight is going to be an instant classic.

You are never going to see this legend again against a test like this. By legend I mean Calderon. This is a must see fight.

It is on Integrated Sports PPV. If you have comcast it is probably next to the sex channels. If you have direct tv it is on one of their many ppv channels. This is going to be one entertaining fight. Calderon has been compared to Willie Pep and Pernell Whitaker

Segura's body work paid dividends. It was time for Ironboy to pass the torch anyways. Great fight

    what...

What do you think about Segura/Roman Gonzalez? I think Gonzalez stops Segura inside of 5 in an all out war.

I don't know if anybody can beat Segura right now. Sure he doesn't have the skill of Gonzalez, but he puts you under so much pressure that you are forced to fight defensive. Also his best fight to date, Gonzales that is, happened 2 years ago against Niida. He hasn't been fighting anybody lately while Segura has torpedo'd his what through the jr. featherweight division and taking names.

One things for sure these Jr. featherweights are making (or should) be making the boxing world stand up and take notice.

I'm ready for Johnriel Casimero vs Segura.

Also King1, what do you think about the Jr. Flyweights taking a que from the super middleweight division and holding a super six of their own? It seems to me that the amount of talent in this division and contrasting styles would make it perfect while it would bring much attention to these little guys so that they can fight on a big stage.

Plus you could have a headbutting rule that would make headbutting not as attractive as it is now, and if decide to headbutt you lose points in the toury.

I like Joni too. I think he takes that fight.

I don't want to see another tournament honestly. The super 6 started great but Ward and Dirrell won't fight each other and now Kessler is pulling out due to an an eye injury. The networks need to force the issue. At least when Finito Lopez was fighting King put him on the main PPV undercards. Like you, I'm a big fan of these guys in the lower weight dicisions. They go to war. Most boxing fans don't know about Jhonny Gonzalez but he delivers action fights.

Thats a great idea on headutting. We need to do something. A bad headbutt is a permanent issue. That scar tissue stays there and it's very difficult for cutmen to work with.

What's sad is that the casual boxing fan will spend 50.00 to watch mosley or del la hoya and see a mediocre fight. But won't plunk 10.00 down to watch these guys.

Last night's fight was as good and exciting as Pac vs Cotto and better than Pac vs clottey, Maywether vs mosley and will be better than pac's next fight against Margarito.

The best fights I've seen lately were undercard fights with little known fighters (Pirog), (Merengo-gonzales), Juan Manual Lopez vs Gerry Penelosa vs Mtagwa.

Anytime you get these top minimum weight fighters together, you are going to see a hell of a fight, as long as there is no headbutting.

I'm with you on this and I like your passion for the sport. HBO isn't reaching out to Pirog and thats bull****. I'm saying that desite the fact that Danny is my boy. Pirog needs to be on TV.

I'm not sold on Juanma. I like Gamboa and Caba out of 126.

Watch out for Erislandy Lara. Slick southpaw at 54 who beats anyone on his best day. Ronnie Shields is the best trainer out there now

Pirog is the best young fighter that I've seen. He is going to be a superstar. The only other guy that rivals this kid is Gamboa in terms of the star power this guy brings.

I can't believe HBO wont reach out to him. Don King needs to take this guy under his wing and then put the kid on a mission. The kid should be a top 5 pound for pound really soon.

    Junior flyweight
Giovani Segura KO8 Ivan "Iron Boy" Calderon
    Unifies junior flyweight titles

    Dan Rafael:

Rafael's remark: It took a while, but at long last we have a honest-to-goodness fight of the year candidate. That this fight is a candidate is a surprise, because Calderon, although one of the best technical boxers of the generation, typically does not make enthralling fights. He's about boxing your ears off in a methodical, sometimes boring, way. Segura is the exact opposite. The Mexico native living in Bell Gardens, Calif., is a straight brawler. His style won out as he made Calderon fight his kind of fight, which made it an all-action fight and a gem to watch.

Segura won the Integrated Sports pay-per-view main event in Calderon's hometown in a rare 108-pound unification match, the first since Rosendo Alvarez and Victor Burgos battled to a draw in their 2003 unification bout in Atlantic City, N.J. Calderon, already recognized as the division's lineal champion, was making the seventh defense of his alphabet belt. Segura was making the fourth defense of his version of the title.
