We all know stevie is one of the best point guards in the league, but will he be able to overtake Payton, Kidd, and Stockton in the voting.

Maybe we should start a Francis for the All-star game campaign.

I have no questions about him making the team he would have last with just a few less turnovers a little better defense if our record wasn't at it's worst point at the break and if Stockton was a year older. I honestly see Francis in close competition for the starting job this year. Payton is 32 and I don't see him improving on last year which was a great year but he shouldn't be expected to carry that much of his team again or Payton will go ballistic. Kidd will have the lead in assists and boards among the points. But what about the scoring, steals, and highlight dunks this category will be lead by Francis. He indeed could win the popular vote even though it will be close. Maybe Payton still will carry his team too much and end up killing Baker and be in Jail b4 he can start the All-Star game. I really think it should go to the gaurd whose team has the best record.

I think by the end of the year, Steve will be more highly regarded than Jason Kidd. Steve can do everything Kidd can do, but Steve has a much better offensive game.

I think Steve will definitely be in the all-star game next year.

Although Steve will have better stats I don't think he will overtake Stockton because you have alot of people in that old school phase and they believe that Stockton is just as good as he was 10 yrs ago so they will vote for him. Steve is proably the second best offensive point guard in the NBA
    behind Marbury.

Only the starters get voted in.

Kobe will DEFINITELY get voted in as one starter, and I'm presuming that Payton will go in as the other starter. That means that Kidd will get the coaches choice as the backup PG - will the coaches choose another PG for the all-star game?

Well, considering there's not really any dominant SG's hanging around, Francis may well get the nod as a reserve guard.

If we all vote for him, then it's possible that he'll get the starters job over GP, Francis is pretty popular!

Sorry, but Kidd is better than Francis...

Kidd is the most complete PG in the league... I love Francis, but his D needs to improve... He got lit up often last year...

So you think Derek Harper or Damon Stoudamire should start? [IMG]

Francis isn't as good as Payton or Kidd. Yet. He'll need to cut down on his turnovers and play better defense. It should come down to wink or Stockton for the last backup guard spot. I'd like to think our guy will pull it off, and I think he will - but it could be close, especially if the Jazz get off to a fast start.

TB3, Francis can do everything Kidd can do? Uh...NO! Kidd has the best court vision in the game by far, Stockton and Bibby aren't that far behind. Kidd also has better leadership and decision making. The rebounding area is pretty even, and Stevie gets the edge in the scoring, but that's about all. Jason is the better PG, better leadership, defense, court vision/awareness, decision making. Steve is gonna be great this year, but he is not at Kidd's level. Don't let your bias blur your judgement in saying that Francis is better than Kidd. In the long run, probably, but not in a few years.

Hate to say it but from the games I've seen Steve's court vision/awareness is not that great to begin with and is not even in the same league as Kidd's, but really whose is?

I love Kidd's game. As far as his defense (and Payton's), I remember Stevie having some "decent" nights against them. It's true they scored on Stevie also, but I think it says alot about a rookie to score on two defensive studs. The point is, if they are great defenders and they still got lit up by Stevie, what does that tell you about Steve's ability last year ?

The all star game is a popularity contest. We all know Vince Carter and Stevie are going to get the most high lights across the country. The question should be who will get the most votes between those two.

I'ma need more than 6 and a half rebounds a game from the PF

Stevie's popularity will be hurt in that no Vancouver fans will vote for him, and some fans across the nation are still holding a grudge against Stevie, because they don't like the way he handled the Vancouver situation.

Francis should get the votes based largely on his style of play

I agree that Stevie may have a hard time because Payton will more than likely be voted in as the starter and I also agree that kidd is the best PG out there. If they do take a third, there may be a chance the sentimental vote would go to Stockton.
But not to worry Stevie will be there, at least in the dunk contest!

lets face facts that the typical nba fan does not care who the better player is but only cares who the more exciting player is. Even if franchise does not take over kidd or francis as a better point guard he will over take them in the all star game voting in my opinion because the fans want to see dunks and excitement. I would be very surprised if francis didnt make the team and I know he especially wants to make it with the game being in his hometown.

i think he has a chance, definitely over stockton, but payton and kidd are still really good and stevie would have to have a great year and one of them would have to play pretty bad but who knows
