Now that we have Brad Miller, the Rockets really have no use for him other than a mentor to the young players.

    Our front line:

    Scola/ Hill/ Patterson

    Yao/ Miller

Does Hayes deserve more playing time than Hill and Patterson and if so can he play the 4 and defend the versitile ones? If he cannot play the 4 then I see Morey trying to trade him this offseason.

    valuable??

    Yes that's the right word.

He'll be on the floor as defensive specialist during crunch time. That my friend is valuable minutes.

Definitely. Chuck is good when we want to go small, he is good when we match up with teams whose B team lacks a good back up center. Chuck will also prove to be invaluable against a team like LA. All in all, the signing of Miler is a less changing of the guard and a more bringing in the calvary to help.

If he can render opponents' hack-a-chuck strategery useless, the answer will be definitely 'yes.'

of course. Chuck is "the closer." They'll bring him in to close someone down who's going off on us.

Hope he gets 0 playing time, which means our bigs are playing good defense and offense.

Actually wouldn't you hope he gets like 30 min a game? That means we closed out the team in the first quarter and now Chuckwagon plays clean up general.

I think he will get less minutes, but he will be used as a specialist when needed.

If that were the case, I would rather have Patterson at the 4 and Hill playing the 5 for trash time. Gotta improve the young ones!

Garbage time should go to Hill, Patterson, or Anderson.

People say this every year since we got him yet he's still there putting in long shifts every night.

Coaches love him, and he's statistically the best complement to Yao. Don't expect that to change.

Patterson/Hill have a long way to go before they take away his minutes.

He doesn't really complement Yao that well when they are both on the court because his lack of offense makes it that much easier for people to double Yao, but he is a good substitute for a change of pace and for stretches in which only defense matters. I agree about Patterson and Hill.

I see you caught that yourself ;).

Statistically if you run the numbers over the last few years Yao's highest level of net effectiveness on offense and defense when he is playing next to Hayes, not Scola or Landry.

Edit: I should add tht if Yao is diminshed on offense (which he probably will be) the "defense/offense" combo they provide might not be as effective.

Edit: I shoudl also add I looked at the numbers again and Landry was actually the most effective tho the sample size was smaller. Hayes-Yao was better in 08 but Yao-Scola was better in 09.

He was the best complement to Yao because he was the ONLY complement there was. Now we have a legit 7 ft back up center and Jordan Hill on the rise. I would rather have Hill get playing time over Hayes.

I think he's your primary backup at the 4 at this point.

Not really - Yao has been here a long time and has played next to a battery of PF's, starting with Maurice Taylor and continuing to the present day.

imo, the primary backup at the 4 should be Hill or Patterson.

He will get minutes as a defensive specialist, and the team needs him there.

I think he's now the "matchup PF". He won't play unless they need a big stop late in games.

I am a big time Hayes fan but I think he will be out of the rotation with the signing of Miller barring any injuries. I do think he is in front of Hill and Patterson at this point. Typically teams do not run ten man rotations. I see our rotation looking like this:

    PG Brooks
    SG Martin
    SF Ariza
    PF Scola
    C Yao
    6 Battier
    7 Lowry
    8 Buddinger
    9 Miller
