Lebron was the best player in the team's history, but considering the way he left, can you imagine that CAVS would retire his number?

Sure. Right after they unveil the new statue of Art Modell in front of their football stadium

Once again, it isn't that he left, it's HOW he left

I still don't get it. Will someone explain to me in detail what was soooo "bad" about the way he left? In addition please provide me an alternate situation that would be a "good" way to leave. Thanks.

A simple presser would have sufficed.

Consider how Amare left the Suns. He made it clear early that there is a high possibility of him leaving. He did not make a big fuss about it and there was no 'documentary' about his decision. Offcourse I understand that Lebron is a much bigger star in the eyes of the press so there is going to be more publicity. but he himself was basically saying he want to stay in cleveland. Why give people false hope. Amare made it clear. It is a business, I understand that. Would you be pissed off if a salesman gave you false information regarding your purchases? Lebron should off just made it clear that there is a high possibility of him leaving as he prob knew he was going to maimi a long time ago.

Seriously, when I heard about that whole hour long special on ESPN, I really thought damn that would be too messed up if he builds the hopes of Cleveland fans up for 72 hours and completely tears them down.

"The Decision" is what is wrong with the way he left.

Say you had been dating a girl for a few years (say maybe, 7 years). Things are kind of rocky and both of yall know there might be a good chance of a breakup. Instead of having a 1 on 1 dinner with her to discuss your relationship and its future, you tell all of your friends + your girlfriend that in 72 hours at a dinner with all your friends, you will announce your decision of whether to break up with her or continue dating her. Then you dump her in front of everyone. Oh, and also tell her who your new girl is.

Yeah, but you win a scratch-o lottery during dinner and give (some of) the money to the Boys & Girls clubs, so it's not all bad.

He was going to be hated no matter how he chose to leave, just because of the way the team was eliminated. I didn't watch the game 5, but I heard he played like a total dog. There's no way people in Cleveland would forgive him for that if he chose to leave.

Still, the way he should have left was to not make it a big media event. I didn't think a scheduled press conference would be a big deal, but "The Decision" was pretty cold. He could have announced it quietly through his agent, and then taken out an ad in the paper to express his regret for not winning a championship in Cleveland and his thanks for the support they've shown him.

I feel like the NBA has become like professional wrestling. Faces turn heel all the time, Kobe became a rapist, LeBron went to hell I mean Miami, it has a whole other dimension to it. I hate it. LeBron has no class.
