Now people, I know a lot of you guys place Bonzi really high on the talent list, and and I agree with that. But if Bonzi showed us anything last year, it was that he is a selfish, lazy, disagreeable guy with weight problems. Supposedly, he has to right himself this season considering his "future" (do you smell the $$$?) So I want to see how many people on this BBS believe that he will play a consistent contributing role on the team, and how many believe that he will bust out again like last year, which means he's gonna have attitude problems, or other fit-in problems (I do).
there is no way bonzi makes the same mistake twice. If he does.. he can kiss a big payday next offseason goodbye
he wants to contribute and win. he also wants to prove that he is worth the 30plus mil he passed up and was never offered again. i figure that he thinks he'll get the chance that van gundy didnt give him.
Dammit, stop blaming Van Gundy for Bonzi's piss poor attitude. No coach should have to take that garbage from any player, especially not a slightly better than average player like Wells. Bonzi is not an all star. He is not a hall of famer. What has he done to deserve priveleged treatment? Van Gundy treated that situation, much like the Spanoulis situation, just as he should have; by benching them. The coach has to be a dictator of sorts, or they lose control and discipline over their team. They have to be in charge. Inspiring players is one thing. Allowing them to run roughshod over you is another. I just hope Adelman has as much balls as Van Gundy. He's going to need them with some of the prima donnas on this team. Anyways, I think Bonzi will contribute because a) he wants Adelman's respect[one of the few coaches to connect with him], b) he is a good player and is looking for that contract he turned down two years ago, and c) he has something to prove.
How many times did Bonzi stop being effective in his career? Bonzi has averaged over 10 points since his third year in the league, which was 00-01, until he came to the Rockets. That's 7 years in a row. Last year he ran into a bad set up, played only 28 games at 21 ppg and still averaged 7.8 points. The point is, Bonzi Wells is a proven player. One bad year doesn't make him a bad player.
Question: Will Bonzi Wells bust out again? Answer: Yes, I think he will contribute consistently to the team. ?????? No, I think his attitude will bring him more problems ???????? This is just hilarious. Yes, he will No, he won't
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO my momma.... i think i just screwed up with polls man.... ok guys here's the plan... yes is still yes, and no is no... just switch what's after that. Sorry... I really am... This turned out to be really stupid...
I am looking for at least 12ppg. As high as 15 if McGrady misses extended time with back problems. I also think he will be a top 5 candidate for most improved player. He is in the perfect situation. He literally described Adelman's hiring as a god send. Reports are that he is already in noticeably better shape. The real sticker is... If he does make an impact, will we be able to resign him? Or will he take a full MLE and starting job somewhere else?
Where is the "No, when you start dribbling the ball off your knee, rarely passing, and passing the ball to opponents when you do, blowing wide open layups, forgetting how to make a jumpshot, then it's not your attitude or your weight that is holding you back" option? Losing 30 pounds might possibly help him play better basketball than a fencepost, though. Even so, the Rockets would be more likely to catch fire in a bottle by getting Derek Anderson back again than Bonzi Wells.
I think being a disciplinarian is much more different from being a dictator. But it is still ok to be a dictator if you make logical choices in the rotation which help the team win. Being a dictator is not ok when you add the element of arbitrariness and capriciousness. I sometimes question whether JVG understood conditioning and fatigue not being a former player in this league. He would play Rafer 40 minutes OR MORE on a back to back schedule. Any former player in the NBA knows how draining it is to play 40 minutes in a game how much more on a back to back. Again, the argument will go back to no other options... well, JVG assessed the PG situation with the team and he said there was nothing wrong with it so the front office took his word for it. Clearly under JVG, rafer was UNTOUCHABLE AND INDISPENSABLE, irregardless of his play he was going to get the minutes .
Yes, we have no bananas. For the record I think every year over 30 it gets harder and harder to put in the work to just maintain your level of physical prowess. Sitting out a year with a negative attitude is going to be a huge obstacle to overcome both mentally and physically. I think Bonzi is going to feel like he's trying to run with ankle weights in Denver. (knowing your already have enough cash in the bank to support your family in a comfortable lifestyle takes even more of the 'drive' out of you)
Agreed. Bonzi Wells was actually a very good all-around player in his prime. He even had good three point range when he was with Portland in that talent laden team. He showed in the series of Sacramento against San Antonio that he has take over skills that only rare superstar players possess. The only difference is that the true superstars are consistent every night. That said, his stint last year was perhaps the lowest in his career. The good thing when you hit rock bottom is that the chances are higher that things will only get better, unless by sheer volition or sloth he wants to dig a deeper hole for himself.
I agree with you.But I have another problem. That is his status. Everybody remember his execution 2 year ago, played with SA.But now,he always have something problem with his body. Can he make a role at the team? There is much unkown problem.
No, but I don’t necessarily think it’s his attitude that will due him in. It’s his game. I don’t see how Adelman will be able to fit Wells in with all the other players on the team that need the ball in their hands to be effective (Yao, Mcgrady, Francis, James, Scola). I think as the season progresses, Adelman will realize he needs more defenders and shooters on the floor, and Bonzi’s lack of speed (particularly on the defensive end) and his limited range will limit his playing time. Had the Rockets not acquired Francis, James, Brooks and Scola this summer, I think Wells’ chance for success would have been much greater than it is now.
Bonzi will do enough to help this team out...i know he has something to prove this year to all of us fans and to himself...i mean it is a contract year isnt it lol
Hopefully this Bonzi shows up... <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/uca66cK-WrA"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/uca66cK-WrA" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
