In my opinion Olajuwon has been the best Rocket we have ever had (including Moses) on and off the court. No one will replace Dream symbolically. He has and will always be my favorite Rocket. However, here comes Steve Francis. He is exciting, young, super athletic, has a good sense of bball, and is fairly mature for his age. I love Francis and can see him finishing his career here in Houston. Now let's say that Francis in his career here leads the Rockets to 3 or more championships, will he replace The Dream as the all time Rocket? ------------------
i dont know but Collier looks mighty tough!!! ------------------ "It wasn't a fight. He punched me one time, that's all. That's not a fight. I don't fight at 30,000 feet. I had an education." L8 vs Stack
No one'll ever replace The Dream...not even Francis. but that's just a 50-poster's opinion right? ------------------ How Sweet it is!
REPLACE him? No. There may come a day when another dominant center comes into the league though. Olajuwon was a very unique, very classy player. His style I have never seen before or since, and I doubt we will see it reproduced again. There is only one Dream. ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
Totally "Unbeatabool". He made his mark by changing the way the game was played by centers. Rudy has played Hakeem the way Bum played Earl: Drop it in and let him take it from there. Both exciting and boring, but definitely effective. ------------------
Cato will replace Dream as soon as he waves to the bench. ------------------ Why don't you guys go down to the gym and pump each other
heb, from what I understood, Dream was going to play all 48 min evey game. Cato would play the PF with MoTay ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
Yeah I heard that too Finn* Something about Hakeems final season and he deserves to play every single minutes availabel dammit! ------------------
Nobody will ever replace the Dream. I'ts going to be emotional hell for me at the end of Dreams farwell season. I doubt I'll be able to go on living, so I'll probably just go jump into the Buffalo Bayou. ------------------ [This message has been edited by ROCKETBOOSTER (edited September 15, 2000).]
ROCKETBOOSTER, Well don't land on me!! ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem. DREAMer's Rocket Page
DREaMer If the Rockets retire and hang Hakeems number up in the new uni's I'll tie a concrete block around my leg and then jump. ------------------
As soon as Hakeem retires we will go to a 3-forward lineup. We will retire the center postion on our team as atribute to the finest center to ever play the game. If I'm lying may I be sent straight to Utah! So I guess the answer to the question is NO. No one will ever replace Hakeem. ------------------ "Stranger things have happened, but none stranger than this" - Commentator after a parachutist landed in the ring of a Holyfield fight
Kareem, Magic, and Shaq haven't really hurt Wilt Chamberlain's reputation. ------------------ WE WILL WATCH THEM FALL... Next year
You know what, I have watched basketball from Wilt and Russel to Olajuwon and Shaq, and I don't know what everyone else sees, but Hakeem would have DOMINIATED any era. Hakeem has been great, I just hope he has a little tread left on his tires. DaDakota ------------------ All you MO-FO's better stop ripping off my lines !!
He will, as long as they are not Firestones. ------------------ Save our children from the TAAS test: TAAS test report card TAAS test fact sheet
Noone can replace the Dream. He is an icon. He has been the northstar for the Rockets for the past 16 years. Now his light is fading. No light, however, will shine as bright, as consistently, as the Dream. Cherish this light while you can, we will never see the like again. ------------------ Sometimes I think I'd be better off dead. No, wait, not me...you.
Dream cannot be replaced. His position is, however, up for grabs... Kelvin Cato has the biggest hands yet. No one else on the roster can even hope to fill those shoes. Git used to it. Kelvin's our C for next year, and thereafter... That said, I bet Rudy can't wait to get ahold of next year's squad... He has to be salivating... 3 excellent guards, 1 superstar PG, 1 PF potential star, 1 fading Dream... I'd think that Rudy has to miss his Rockets. I bet he thinks about playing them in Sydney every day... Next season will be fun. ------------------ "I am an idiot. Admit that you are too, and we'll talk..." Heh... I'm trying to imagine the guy that would have the balls to say that Dream is replaceable in that sense. Asking if he is is like asking: "Was Michael Jordan a great player?" "Is Steve Francis the leader of this team?" "Did OJ do it?" Answers to some questions are just blatently obvious. ------------------ "There are three kinds of lies: Lies, Damned Lies, and STATISTICS..." - Mark Twain - [This message has been edited by DarkHorse (edited September 18, 2000).]
I think if someone has been a Rocket fan since the 95 - 96 season, Francis will easily "replace" Hakeem. To them "The Dream" is a myth, and old wive's tale they've heard time and time again from old dudes like me. To them Shaq, Duncan, Mourning, and Carter are all better players. But, I don't have a big problem with that. I hope Francis turns out to be for them what Olajuwon was for me and Rocket fans like me from back in the day. Okay, I don't think I can post in any more threads like this. I am getting way too bummed out. ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem. DREAMer's Rocket Page
