I voted no. I will miss his ability to knock down the three.

Unless there is a trade for a good big man or an extended Melo, he'll be back. Too good to let go for nothing or trade for anything less than a player with star qualities or potential.

    AB got game!

    I vote yes.

Since lowry is doing good i dont think AB will be in houston.
That might trade him for a decent Center or something ?

As much as I like Brooks (one of my favorite players on the Rockets right now) I think he is the best chance - in a package, through a trade - of us landing us a superstar like Carmelo or potential superstar like Danny Granger.

For anything less, I would not trade him.

You can ask this about any player on the team, they could all be traded.

I don't think there are any untouchable players on our roster, this year.

I think Brooks will be a rocket next season because Morey wouldn't let a good player walk without somehow benefiting from it.

Alot of people here are saying Brooks is expandable because Lowry is playing good. Now let me ask you a question. Is he playing good or just putting up numbers? Imo, he putting up numbers, but the problem is, him and Martin can't will his team to victory like Brooks can. As much as I hate Brook's shot selection, the Rockets will be making a huge mistake picking Lowry over Brooks.

*sigh* Really? You took the time to create your own thread and add a poll, but couldn't take the time to type out full words, proof read or to punctuate a single sentence (as written)?

But I don't want to come across as overly critical. At the very least, this thread isn't meant to bash any of our players...and for that, I thank you. :)

Sure, but not all players are the best on our team. And not all of them are playing on a soon-to-be expired rookie contract. :) It's an interesting question.

Now, my take. Earlier in the season, I was thinking that Brooks would be the center piece in the biggest trade we make this season because he is the best player we have and because I wasn't so sure if the Rockets really wanted to pay a second point guard big money. That opinion was reinforced with the development of Lowry as our starting point guard.

However, throughout Brooks' absence, one thing has become clear. We really miss having a player that can close out games the way that AB does or the way that TMac did. I had gotten used to the idea of having a closer. And then this season I began to greatly miss one.

So unless the player we would get back in a Brooks trade is known as a closing scorer, I don't think we're trading him this season, not even for a center. Why trade the solution to one problem for the solution to another? That's a lateral move.

The only reason Brooks would become expendable is if we are getting a superstar back in return. A superstar is suppose to be the person the team turns to when we need points and will us to victory. Right now this is Brooks's role, because he is pretty good at it and we have no one else. A superstar taking over that role makes Brooks completely redundant. For example, if we get say Carmelo Anthony or Kobe (all hypothetical and would probably never ever happen), would we still need Brooks? Definitely not. Some will argue that 2 closers are better than 1 and I agree, but we have to give up something to get something and Brooks is probably more attractive to teams looking for young talent than Martin. Does that answer your question?

    Simple answer No!!

Unless you want to overpay for him in the off-season. Sacramento has a lot of cash this off-season and they've wanted Brooks for a long time now ... and truth be told I'm not willing to pay 10+ mill for a 5'10 shooting guard masquerading as a point guard....

You have graduated to a good understanding of the situation, let's hope more people can extrapolate out as well as you.

He's not going to get the big contract he wants, and it's going to cause resentment. I'd be stunned if he isn't shipped.

LOL - He will get a market driven contract, it amazes me that people say he won't get paid.

If the Cleveland Cavs will offer a backup PG 6+ million someone will offer AB at least that much, and more than likely more.

I would hate to have to give Brooks the 10M+ that some folks here are saying is the number Sacramento or some other team is going to throw at him.

I would also hate to lose him for nothing.

Shop all of them hard and if push comes to shove, I'll rather have Lowry at 5.75M than Brooks for 9-10M+.

And if the new CBA is going to take us closer to harder salary cap, tying 16M in salaries to PG spot would make it very hard to rise from the mediocrity since neither Brooks nor Lowry is elite player for his position and they also don't have realistic chance to develop into one.

But lot of things can happen before next season. At the moment, I'm leaning towards answering no to the poll.
