Wii should be available in stores today (but go early!)

I know there's a Wii launch thread, but I figured far fewer people would see this if I posted in there...

Lots of stores have held onto their Wii stock in order to sell them all today. There should be more units available at your local stores like Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. but I wouldn't count on being able to just walk in during the middle of the day to get one. I'm not sure if there will be lines or what, but I'd say if you want one you have a pretty good chance if you go sometime this morning. Obviously the earlier the better.

Here is a list of Circuit City locations and how many they should have in stock. The first number is the store number and the second is the number of Wii's. Go to HERE and type in your ZIP Code to see what your store # is. It's right next to the store location name. Once you have that number come back and check it against this long ass list I posted below. Sorry it's so freaking long, but it's for the entire US and I don't know which numbers are TX numbers.

*I don't have lists for any other stores, sorry.

that's why they have sold over 1 million units in 3 weeks. the 360 has sold 7 million in 12 months.

I doubt they shipped 1 million in the U.S. I think RC reported they only had 400-500k at launch and since launch they've been pretty dry.

Ohh..maybe your talking about world wide figures...if thats the case that sounds right.

The Wii has much easier to find components as it is not as state of the art as the 360 or the PS3, therefore it is easier for them to have more quantities.

Nintendo went for fun over graphics....while MS and Sony went for horsepower.

I find it ironic that everyone is raving about the Wii's controller when it is the same technology that all those cheap toys at walmart use.

The ones where you get a light sabre, and have a small ball to set in front of your TV which plots the location of the light sabre....same thing the controller does....except for the Gyro.

So, explain this to me: How does a giant company like Best Buy NOT get any new shipments of Wiis for over a week during the holiday shopping season? Every other store has them in stock today... except Best Buy. The problem is, that's the one freaking store I'm chained to, since I have over $200 in gift certificates there. I went this morning to see if they had any (on advice from Wiiseeker), and I was shot down at 2 Best Buys. Yet, two doors down at Toys 'R Us, there was a small line for the Wii. And I'm sure everyone in that line probably got one, too. [ x infinity] + 1

I think the Wii sold more than 600,000 in the first 8 days.

EDIT: That was everywhere but Japan. Reports are it sold all 400,000 units in Japan its first day.

So yeah, possibly already at 1 million units.

Do you have a link to one of these toys? It'd be interesting to see the comparison.

Yeah, over a million Wiis have been sold between Japan and North America. You can probably add another 400K or so in the next week when the Wii launches in Europe.

The 360 hasn't sold 7M WW, unless you're talking shipment numbers (and technically shipped = sold for these companies). Actual sold-through numbers are probably around 4M-5M through October (waiting for November US sales to update that figure), going by the best estimates we have.

For the PS3, we only really know that they've sold ~160K units so far in Japan. I don't think there have been any firm numbers from North America. I'd guess around 400K-500K sold worldwide so far. Maybe a little more if they were able to have those 100K weekly shipments in NA (doubt it).

I don't have either of them yet. Would most here pick the XBOX 360 or the Wii?

Xbox has only sold 4-5 million in one year? thats pretty terrible compared to the wii

I figured it would have sold a lot more with a year headstart

Give the 360 another month or so. November and December are typically huge months for sales, and with the 360 in ample supply (unlike the Wii and PS3), it could probably sell another 2-3 million in the US alone (especially with the release of Gears of War). It would really help Microsoft if they could get anything going in Japan and Europe. Gears of War might be able to help them out in Europe, and Blue Dragon can help them out a lot in Japan (Wii sold more than 2 times the number of 360s in Japan in less than 24 hours).

If the sales still look bad at the end of the year (especially if Japan and Europe continue to "shun" the 360), then maybe it would be time to call it terrible. Although if Nintendo can keep this launch momentum going (and I don't see why they couldn't), the Wii could still catch up to the 360 sometime next year.

I'm guessing some models of the BMW or Benz don't sell as many as the Toyota Camary, but that doesn't make it less of a car.

    I like my 360.

Perhaps, but BMW can afford to cater to a niche market and sell less overall cars due to a healthy profit margin per car. In the console wars, XBOX360 doesn't have that luxury. Microsoft, because they lose money on every console, has to sell as many units as possible in order to generate revenue (and create a network effect with XBOX Live). If the console gets relegated to a "niche" status, Microsoft will be in huge trouble. Nintendo, in the past, has been able to pull off a niche play with their consoles because the company made a profit on each unit sold. So, technically, Nintendo = BMW and Microsoft = Toyota. :)

I think that could be a possibility. I bought a 360 for my kids (11 and 15) and they play on the DS far more than they do the 360. I was surprised when my son recently bought an Xbox game (he rarely does), Destroy All Humans II, (for the original Xbox, not the 360). He thought it was playable on the 360, and was really ticked off when this new game turned out not to have the patch online needed to play it on the 360. Really, really stupid on Microsoft's part.

Both of them are dyin' to have a Wii. I think the games and the playability, or "fun" factor is really going to hurt the 360. Even though they have big issues, at least Sony has a huge number of games that should be backwards compatible (and upgradeable) for the PS3. Frankly, from all I've heard, they both should be very concerned about the Wii.

Now, if I could just find one!
