I just bought a Wii for the kids. (the ps3 is mine!) Anyway, is there a way to get them to play DVD's without buying accesories? I read some things on the interweb about downloading software or is there a way to open it up and mess with some stuff? thanks guys.
nope. Not that I know of. It can read sd memory cards but I don't think it plays video. The disc reader is specifically made for wii games....sucks, but for $225 meh.
Sure it can. Mine is software-mod'ed to play game backups (bootlegs), play emulated games, dvd's, mp3's .... you name it. I just did the Twilight hack. Worked beautifully, didn't void my warranty and didn't cost a dime.
This is not true. The drive in the Wii is a DVD drive that only reads DVD-R disks. So, the hardware is there. If the Wii has the proper software on it (mine does), it can play DVD's.
GREAT! where to you get the software or the chip? I don't care about voiding the warranty. I will pop that sucker open if I have to. I bought it really cheap ,used.
Just google "wii Twilight hack". There's even videos on Youtube walking you through it. It's simple.
