When i turn on my laptop, I'm not instantly connected to my home's wifi. I have to connect and enter the passcode every time. Any way to set it so that it just remembers that network every time when it finds it...and so I don't have to type in the passcode every time??

hmm... that's weird. Are you using the standard windows software to connect to the network?

Sounds like you may need to unplug the modem/router, turn off your computer, and turn them all on again... that's always the #1 advice from any low-IQ tech support person, and as soon as you tell them that you already did that, they're stuck and they get their upper level right away.

I would go into the "Network and Sharing Center" (in the Control Panel). On the left hand side there is a "Manage Wireless Networks", click on it. Delete everything in there.

Turn off wireless on your laptop, turn it back on (hopefully your laptop has a button to do this). Search for your Home's access Point, connect to it. Once the connection gets established there will be a screen with a checkbox the always connect....

There's other ways for this, but this will also allow you to clean up other "old" connections if there are any.

On the Network Connection thingiemajig on the icon tray, right click, or double-click to get to the "Network and Sharing Center" of the Control Panel or just go there with the Control panel.

While connected, click "View Status" just below the name of your current connection (you'll see "Connection" and then "View Status" on the right).

On the opening dialog box ("Wireless Network Connection Status"), there is a Wireless Properties button. Click it.

On the last winder/options thingie, check "Connect Automatically when this network is in range" and optionally click "Connect if this network is not broadcasting" if you're NOT broadcasting your SSID.

    Yes! Zing!

Sorry, but I was vindicated today when "Meh" was put into the dictionary. I said that word back in high school.

As an aside, when people said I didn't make it up, I said I'd make up a new word, which was "Blargh." It hasn't caught on as quickly, but we shall see.

My newest quest is to make the word"fascinating" mean apathetic irony. From what I've seen, it takes ten years, so let's bookmark the date when it is proven that Fatty FatBastard has Bastardized the dictionary.

    click wireless properties

Not the "Properties" button, but the "WIreless Properties" button on the previous step.

Should look like this at the end:

Seriously, a prerequisite to helping Swoly should always come with the terms that he's never able to post a "smiley" again.

I love ya Swoly, but enough!

on the wireless network connection window (after clicking on status)...there is no "wireless properties." there is a "properties" under the subheading , "Activity." when i click on that properties button, it does not give me a "connect automatically" option. the window that opens is called "wireless network connection properties." it has options like: "client for microsoft networks" and "symantec network security intermediate filter driver"...and there are boxes to check...but none for "connect automatically."

    You're on THIS ONE:

Go back ONE STEP, and look for a DIFFERENT "wireless properties" button.

    ON THIS STEP:
    http://pineleashed.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/wireless.jpg

Click "View Status". At THAT step, click "Wireless Properties" or NOT THE ONE YOU KEEP CLICKING. :p
