Hey guys, does anyone know for sure the way Yahoo determines playoff seeding? It's a 12 team league, two divisions, 6 teams in playoffs with top two seeds getting a bye. My question is regarding the 2 and 3 seeded teams both in the same division. They both have identical overall records with the current second seed having a better divisional record, the current third seed has more points though. So it looks like they seed based on division record right? However, the 8th and 9th and 10th seeds all have the same overall record and seeding there appears to be based on total points instead. Their divisional records break down like this 9th equal to 10th both better than 8th. I need to figure this out before next week when the playoffs start, it is especially important because we payoff the top 4 spots so the 1st and 2nd seeds are guaranteed to be in the money. Yahoo's explanation of how they determine the seeds under rules and settings leaves a little to be desired so I am reaching out to you hoping for an answer. Any help guys, thanks.
thanks Moe, if I am reading this right because teams 2 nad 3 are in the same division it is based on Div record but because teams 8,9 and 10 are aplit over both divisions with the overall record being equal it has to jump over to total points to break the tie? In any case you da' man, Moe, thanks a lot; feel free to correct me if my above thoughts are still wrong.
you're mostly right. Teams competing for a division title go to the Division winning %age first. If you're just competing for a playoff spot...whether in same division or not...it is total points
