just had my wisdom teeth taken out this past weekend (that's why i couldn't make it to the poker tourney ) and it's really bugging me that i have food getting stuck in the holes in my gums.. i'm assuming a lot of people here have gotten their wisdom teeth removed.. any pointers or advice on ways to get the food out of there? i've tried gargling water on the side softly to get it out, but doens't work very well... i've also heard that some people have tried squirting water using a syringe? thanks for the help...
They gave me the syringe to squirt the food out when I got mine pulled. Thats probably your best bet and causes the least amount of pain.
Dude... call the dds and ask them for the best according to your case... Just avoid "dry socket" like the plague!!!
At the clinic where I work, the Dr. recommends a syringe with salt water. Like the previous poster said, avoid "dry socket!" No soda, spitting, or sucking, like using a straw you pervs!
I had it done a couple of yrs ago, it really wasn't too bad, I was knocked out pretty good for it,. and I really didn't have too much pain the next few days, just be sure to take the pain killers before bed because it woke me up out of a dead sleep. I think the worst part was that I got pretty sick from the anesthetic, with some vomiting, but other than that it went well. Mine were impacted, so I guess those are worse. Also, definetely syringe, no doubt!
The first couple days was the worst pain ever for me. Didn't last very long though. Just the chipmunk-swelling.
i have to get mine removed soon. that's what the dentist said. i'm kinda scared because of all the hoopla and hype about it. despite my small frame, and build, i do have high pain tolerance. except in the heart, i low pain tolerance.
I had a wisdom tooth pulled and the same night I ate a Jalapeno Cheese Dog at Minute Maid Park. I obviously didn't chew with that side of my mouth. I took the gauze out, ate, drank water to make sure there was no food stuck, and put new gauze in. I think why I could eat (probably against dentist's orders) painfree was because the tooth had already come in and the dentist just yanked it out. Now the root canal sucked. My ceramic crown chipped within 6 months.
how many did u all get pulled out, because i have to get all 4 of mine pulled out in december, im hoping it really isnt as painful as it seems
I had all 4 done too. Ask for the gas. Funnest surgical experience I've ever had. 1. take prescribed valium 30 minutes before you go to the doc; 2. get local anesthetic in roof of mouth; 3. strap on gasmask; 4. feel them pull out your teeth, but you don't care; 5. get home, still wacked out on gas, take vicodin, repeat as necessary; 6. feel no pain. Guess it depends on what you're smoking. Made the few hours after surgery that much more enjoyable.
I had 3 pulled...one never grew...I didnt use the gas...i went with the IV, although when they went to put the IV in I was going to watch and the assistant for whatever reason was like no look away and turned my head away. Told me to count down from 10 got to like 8 and i was gone. When I went to get up afterwards I thought I had enough energy to do so. Went to stand up and just fell right into my parents arms who were helping me out of the chair. Came home and passed out for like 4 more hours. Woke up to pain...replaced my gauze and took a vicodin and proceeded to pass out again. Kind of how it went for me..was up and going in like 4 days.
