-It's the economy, stupid. Unemployment is ridiculously low and the Dow (which many in the middle class invest in) is at an all time high. That said, I think there are major issues in the economy, mainly the ridiculous amount of debt the average household is carrying and the real estate bubble. And I think the tax cuts are a major reason for this. -If you are against amnesty for illegal immigrants, a Republican House and Senate are less likely to pass such a bill. -Education. I believe we would be stuck with the status quo if Democrats win, with teacher's unions (one of the main problems with education IMO) getting whatever they want. -I would say that the Democrats would spend more, but I don't believe that anymore. That said, I am still debating between voting for Republicans and not voting at all. There are a lot more reasons to vote for Democrats this election.
Because if you don't, we'll all eventually be spending Christmas at Osama's Homobortion Pot and Commie Jizzporium. (taken from Jon Stewart )
i keep hearing this, but hasnt bush's main border/immigrant plan for the past 6 years been amnesty? im not saying dems are anti-amnesty because they are not, but for republicans to act like its only dems who are pro-amnesty is a joke. republican or democrat, it matters not - both sides are controlled by the same master. good - how can you when bush has spent more than all previous 42 presidents combined (and only needed 4 years to do it). bush is the biggest fiscal liberal this country has ever had.
No doubt Bush supports amnesty and many Republicans do also. However, it was the Republicans who basically stopped Bush's plan in Congress (I believe it was the House) and it was Republicans who pushed through the fence.
Aggressive foreign policy. Aggressive domestic policy. The Patriot Act is a great example of how Republican policies work. And the economy is absolutely studly.
I have an issue. I think the market would react better to a mixed congress. But would a mixed congress vote to keep the tax breaks permanent? The tax cuts are about to expire pretty soon.
By all means let us get rid of all taxes!!! The government would likely not go broke before I died. And if it did, I can always become an ex-pat. Seriously, "the market" might react favorably to a balanced federal budget, which likely means higher taxes, epsecially down the down road when the boomers retire.
Agreed, but we don't have to raise taxes to help balance the budget. We can decrease some goverment spending. Which for me would include: welfare, social security, public education, foreign aid, war on drugs, medicare, medicaid. Privatization always was favorable upon me. And privatization never criticized my posts. Edit - FEMA
Unless you accidently forgot to mention this, I find it hard to respect a word of that post when you forget to mention that PORK BARREL SPENDING which has gotten a lot worse under the current administration, should be cut. There's your problem right there. So before we screw over the poor people, old people, etc.. how about getting a bunch of corrupt politicians to quit wasting our money. If we still have funding issues then maybe we can look into the other areas but I doubt that will be necessary.
Because you don't think your taxes are too low. Because you don't wake up every morning and say "Hooraaaay abortion!" Because you believe family values should guide society instead of the other way around. Because it will great to watch James Carville melt down on national TV again. Because you just really love elephants. Because Rick Santorum is just that damn sexy. Because Bob Dole told you to. And Bob Dole knows what's best for Bob Dole..uhh, I mean you. Darn it. Because it will be fun to read the topics here in the D&D about how all of us right wing Christian nutcases are now in charge and will beat up gays, starve old people, and force you to pray. Because the ghost of Calvin Coolidge is watching you. And most importantly, because if you don't, the Dixie Chicks will no longer have anything to whine about. God bless America, and happy voting.
