Why wouldn't Chris Bosh just go to the Mavs?

Chris Bosh just go to the Mavs? I see a lot of threads saying go after Bosh, get Bosh, target Bosh in 2010. But how do we know Bosh will want to come to Houston?

If I’m not mistaken a lot of peoples arguments are that he is from Texas and will want to move back to the States instead of Canada. This may be true but isn’t he from Dallas? Although the Mavs are getting older they do have an alright core and they are bringing back Jason Kidd along with trying to acquire Shawn Marion.

Dirk can opt out next year just as Yao and all the other Super Stars and the Mavs have a team option on Josh Howard. That could free up even more dollars to sign him. They could also do some type of S&T to get him, but that’s just speculation. What exactly would we be able to offer?

Then there is the NY option that he and LeBron could run with.

Don’t get me wrong I would LOVE to get a Bosh, Wade, Johnson, Stoudamire, or even LeBron… right  . But will we have the assets to get them or our “top target” Chris Bosh? (assets meaning allure of the city and players they would be willing to play with)

Because Dallas will be over the cap, therefore they can only acquire Bosh via sign and trade. Plus, no way Dirk doesn't retire a Mav. he is the face of the franchise

They are way over the Luxury Tax. Even if Dirk + Howard are gone, they don't have enough money under the cap to sign him.

Only a sign + trade deal is possible.

I mean I'm the biggest Mav hater in the world...but the dude was 1st team all NBA this season...why poor Mavs fans?

Any argument that he's a choker is weak-sauce unless you want to rag on our entire team (which either has choked or hasn't even been in a position to choke).

Dallas may or may not be an option, but I do agree with the sentiment of the OP -- Bosh being from Texas doesn't make Houston any more enticing than anywhere else. Players talk about playing close to home often, but I don't think you often see that consideration actually win out when picking a team as a free agent. Money, winning, and fit will be far more important than geography.

Don't forget Marion's new deal. I love Mark Cuban. If there's an overrated over-the-hill vet who needs to add "overpaid" to his list of attributions, there's no one left he can turn to now that Isaiah's gone.

I would love to have Dirk on this team. He's probably the one guy that coaches pull their hair out, trying to figure out how to defend.

So true. I remember he went and traded for Juwan Howard while he was in the back end of that ridiculous $100+M contract that Washington gave him. His constant roster turnover is the reason why the Mavs have gone downhill since that Finals appearance in '05.

Its called a 6'7"+ SF who can play defense. while Dirk is not horrible in the post he is extremely uncomfortable to say the least.

Have to disagree with you for once Flash. For reasons that people have already stated such as Dallas being over the cap, etc. Houston is the best team for him to go to in order to be close to home and get paid near the maximum amount of money that he can earn on the market.

It's simple really. While we don't have a championship team now, if he joined the current team, he would have great talent around him immediately and Morey will only add to it if he signs here. Even if we don't actually get him, there are plenty of reasons for the Rockets to try.

Dude was ballin out of control this past season and especially in the playoffs. Dirk doesn't have enough around him. He has cut a lot of the flopping out of his game, which has made him bearable to watch.

IMO, it's all going to depend on the talent and moves Morey does from here to then. If we make the moves to surround our new coming All Stars, that is if we get any, with max, young, athletic talent we will have one of the top chances to land a top free agent.

I just don't like that everyone automatically expects Bosh to sign with us just because he's from Texas. Who knows maybe he hated being in Texas and would prefer to play in Atlanta or somewhere of that sort. I mean he did go to Georgia Tech for 1 season.

Does that mean he'll be a Hawk next season??? ;)
