I keep seeing random trades for this guy and I don’t understand it. He’s overpaid, severely limited on offense and has shown a complete unwillingness to improve. He also can’t take criticism. Why would we want to have a guy with this mentality around the young guys? At best, he knocks us out of a top 3 pick this year At worst, we’re stuck with this mental midget for a long time Hard pass
You could probably have just replied to one of the trades you saw. Not sure this warrants an entirely different thread. Whilst I personally don't want Simmons, I can see the argument for adding him. You could play him at point and have a pass-first elite defender who doesn't need scoring looks to play alongside our 2 future stars in KP and Green, both of whom are primarily scorers. Or you could play him at the 4-5 and have an elite defender who playmakes, can hit gimme buckets inside and who would pair well with Alpi in the frontcourt, giving us length and much needed defense and also opening up the potential of 2 very good passing bigs (which would make us very unique as a team - it's always better to be different than the norm as it's harder to defend.) Even though I'm not advocating it, I can really never understand why people fail to see the obvious.
Because he is a very good basketball player who is still improving and is better than ANYONE on our roster. And he is not an Oompa Loompa.... DD
Morey wants a Top 35 player back at worst. Do we even have that? Is Woodie that guy? We have guys that have the worst PERs it seems, does that count......
Folks who were wary of KPJ's emotional outburst, Simons is next level. If you can look past his offensive weakness, what is preventing him from giving up on the team like he is currently doing with the 76ers?
I’ve been asking that for a year now. I’d prefer almost any other logical trade out there over doing what it takes to get that guy on this team around a bunch of men younger than him while he is the supposed leader. What a joke.
i dont understand why we're paying Wall to sit at home... over 75% of the board believe he's at least a 'decent starting option for most teams' up to 'an overpaid but really good player.... https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/whats-your-opinion-of-john-walls-current-ability.314482/ but we dont want him bc of his 'flaws'... and Simmons has plenty of his own flaws....
You know why though. May not agree but you know. Org wants to know if KPJ can play point guard. Rockets have to decide soon whether or not to extend KPJ. On Wall coming off the bench, Wall doesn't want to. I think we both share the same opinion on KPJ, but we differ on Wall sitting. That said, Rockets is still very high on KPJ as point guard. With KPJ's recent play, they have a case to continue.
I don’t understand it either every time I see someone clamoring for Ben Simmons I’m like one dude even told me on here he’d give up this year’s pick top 2 protected for Simmons… Are u dumb?
Can only chalk it up to total ignorance to be honest. Repeated mentions of his elite defense without facing the problem of how every Simmons story will end. Maybe they just don't understand that the same ending will repeat itself, no one is going to let us win a series letting Simmons not shoot in crucial moments. It's understandable you have to work with the flaws of a player already on your roster sometimes, but to acquire a max level player as your first max player and he will not or can not shoot in the crucial parts of crucial games/series.... that's gross incompetence and reckless decision making on the part of the GM, should be fired for suggesting it to ownership. Exception of course being unless you want to flip him for another asset before his next playoff choke.
Wall's flaws are very different from Simmons' flaws. Wall is an older injury prone uber inefficient score first former all star PG who still believes he's a franchise player then fell in love with the ISO and forgot how throw the lob in PnR. Wall is also an overrated defender and is an average to poor playmaker because of his selfish ball hog style. Simmons is a young still in his prime all star surprisingly efficient scorer triple double threat top 10 at his position PG that excels playing fast in transition and is ELITE defensively. Simmons also just happens to be the biggest longest all star PG in NBA history standing 6'10 with a 7'0 wingspan. Wall would be top 4 or 5 most talented player on currents Rockets roster and his addition would have the Rockets fighting for the 11th or 12th spot in West, maybe. Simmons would be the most talented and accomplished player on this Rockets team and elevate team defense from bottom of the NBA to at least the top 3rd, hands down. This is really not rocket science.
Simmons has his problems for sure, otherwise a player as talented and as young as Simmons would not be available for pennies. But Simmons has never flipped his car, struck anyone, thrown things at executives, walked out of a game or was suspended from his college. I love KPJ's potential and have been ardent supporter but let's be real here. And if KPJ can be helped by Lucas and Rockets support, then there is more than some hope for Simmons.
