i mean obviously he can. anyone can. he wont thrive in it, stop thinking he can. he is obviously a pure sf, just like ariza, what gives people the impression that he can play minutes at the 2? Ooo, and to save a thread. why do people on this board overrate JT?

The only time it will even be an issue will be when he's on defense. I'm sure Rick will put him in the game with either Trevor or Shane, that way he just has to guard the weaker of the opposing teams SG/SF. Simple.

im not saying they wont ever put him there. but as a regular option...why? people seem to think that if martin goes down a sg lineup of budinger/taylor will be solid. wtf.

Because there really isn't that huge of a difference between the 2 and 3 spots?

I find it mildly humorous that you wanted to save threadspace, yet this all could have gone in your KMart thread where the same argument is ongoing...

And yeah, the 2/3 position isn't that different in Adelman's offense, so I don't really see what the big deal is. And no one is saying JT is a superstar; in fact, I'm pretty sure most people accept that he's no more than a competent backup at this point.

The two guard isn't some special position that only a few players can play. If you have Ariza and Budinger on the court at the same time you have Ariza to hold the best perimeter player and Chase to be your shooter. There are very few teams in this league that have a 2 and a 3 that require a great defender on them Does it really matter who is the 2 or 3 between Chase and Ariza? At all times you will have Lowry or Brooks out there with those two so they don't have to handle the ball.

This. We have people that think T-Mac should have played the 1 and that Battier has no value to the team.

Maybe it's because there aren't enough videos of Battier passing.

Whats the difference between how Martin defends the SG position and Budinger? Obviously Budingers can be fixed with time on defense Martins cant. He has always been pretty bad on Defense. On offense we know already he can handle that part of the game. He is tall and athletic for tat position and only getting better. So its a matter of Martins defense not makiong the argument against anyone else like Budinger stepping up to that position and Budingers offense certainly makes a case for it enough.

T-Mac used to be an excellent passer with extremely good handling skills for a 6'8 SG, not to mention he had a decent low post game, he could have created some huge mismatches at the 1 spot.

Now on the Battier subject I dont even know what to say, except for that most people underrate glue guys on basketball teams because they have never played in a good organization.

If slower than dirt Reggie Miller can thrive at it, so can CBud.

It is all up to him.

He can handle the ball adequately, and he obviously can shoot it. The only reason he may not be as successful at the 2 rather than the 3 is some of the defensive matchups may be tougher for him. In summer league, he had difficulty staying in front of quick perimeter players.

But for the most part, if you can play the 3 in this league and you can handle the ball, you should be able to play some minutes at the 2. The two positions aren't really that different.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that Chase Budinger plays a not insignificant number (> 300) minutes at the 2 next year. Mostly with Ariza or Battier playing the 3.
