3 triple doubles in the past 3 games and he has been playing great overall since he started getting minutes. anyone know why in the world this guy wasn't playing?

I heard to get his last triple-double, he intentionally missed a lay-up (or shot) off the back board to get his 10th rebound with 5 seconds to go in the game.

    That's weak.

    I heard this too. Silly.

Although 2 legit triple doubles and 1 rebound shy of a triple double is still pretty amazing.

What's weaker is seeing the entire Hawks roster (+ coaches) celebrate by jumping up and down and mugging him, as if he'd just gone he'd just clinched a playoff berth or title or something...

Good thing his name isn't Ricky Davis or Darrel Armstrong because then this would have been a big deal.

I consider this to be just as big a deal as Ricky Davis. I'm confident the media will as well. You can put the race card back in your pocket.

    The media isn't the problem.

I did not mind Ricky Davis doing it, and I don't mind Bobby Sura doing it either.

    It is just stats...big deal.

Of course Sura shot at the RIGHT goal instead of his own teams, but....

    :)

I think he was injured. He's also like Ricky Davis and Armstrong. He can put up great numbers on crappy teams, but he's not really a great player.

It's cheap, but in the end, who cares, except for Doug Collins. Sura has had a tough year so why the hell not.

Gabby is right. It's okay to stat pad if you are white. Anyone else who does it is a thug, and whoever disagrees is wrong.

Oh, and Sura putting up those #s just shows once again how scrubs of the league can put up decent #s if given the looks on a bad team.

Wrong, the media completely blew it off. I think it's idiotic how the media completely went bonkers during the Ricky Davis triple-double and completely blew off the Sura thing outside of the lame "put an asterick next to it".

I'll reserve judgement until tomorrow, seeing as how the event only occured last night.

I even remember a thread suggesting we pick up Sura, and everyone was saying that he was washed up. Now everyones really down with Bob Sura. Hm. Either people suck at evaluating ability, or he's just playing for the Hawks, where Jason Collier is a 20/10 threat every night. Either way, stop talking.

And there's a HUGE difference when you shoot at the CORRECT basket...

Ricky Davis is trash. I say that as a Celtics fan.

Ricky Davis was already carrying a bad reputation as a stat-padding ballhog that was impeding the success of his team -- and not without good reason. That's why his triple-double attempt was blasted. It was another example of how he was putting himself before the team. Sura doesn't have that rep, so the issue isn't already a sore point. I think making it a race thing is an insulting load of BS. It was the same way with Shaq and Francis cussing on TV -- some people are asking why the reaction wasn't the same, but the truth is the offense wasn't the same. Same here.

Ricky Davis shot the ball at HIS OWN TEAM'S BASKET! I'd say that was worse.

Don't you think it's just a LITTLE different when you shoot at the WRONG BASKET?

    D'oh!

I forgot that Davis shot at his OWN basket. Yes, now I've changed my mind and come to the conclusion that Davis' actions were worst.

Damn, how did I forget that?

Also, Ricky Davis is a ballhog who would shoot way too many bad shots. During the 3 game span, Bob Sura is over 50 percent shooting.

The Shaq and Francis comparison isn't the same. Yes both cursed on television, but one was during an after the game interview, and one situation was in the heat of the moment.

Both Sura and Davis made a mockery of the game and sportsmanship, Davis shooting on the wrong goal makes it dumber, but not worse. Bob Sura still missed a shot on purpose to pad his stats. That's the issue, not shooting on the wrong goal.
