Let's forget about the T-mac stuff for a second and think about this. According to the ESPN article (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1825839 ), Cat is one of our unprotected players. With his salary and his skills, he seems like a perfect player to be taken in the E-draft. So we could have lost Cat for nothing and actually, he could still be taken and it could mess up our trade for T-mac. It isn't out of the realm of possibility that he could be taken, so why were the Rockets interested in getting rid of him?

He was protected. Griffin, EP, and Mo were the unprotected.

I think that report is erroneous.

If the Rockets left Cat unprotected, everyone in the front office should be fired.

thats pure specualtion since the list was never made public.

just because it was in a espn news story doesnt mean it is all true.

Cat is not unprotected....size of contract+skillset= Bobcats new 2 guard

he will(unfortunately) be included to ORL for TM.

I've seen Chad Ford's own list of unprotected players and it didn't have Mobes. Did Chad somehow forget that he himself said that Mobley was protected.?

I think all they are saying in that article is that Steve and T-Mac are the only ones they are certain are protected. They don't know for sure if Cat is protected or not.

He never said Cat was UNPROTECTED nor protected simply because he doesnt know. All those list out there are pure speculation or leaked from team sources. He just said that if cat was picked the deal would not work.

No way cat is left unprotected. He has one of the best contracts in the league.

But only for 1 more season. He has a Player Option for 2005-06 and would be an Unrestricted FA for any team acquiring him if he chose not to excercise the option. That IMO is why losing Cat to CHA was not necessarily a slam dunk. He could have been unprotected. Remember...an unextended McGrady would also have been an UFA in 2005 and that is what started this whole sequence of events.

I think you're right, but I sure would like to hear from Doc Rocket on this. It was only a day or three ago that he was saying we might move Cat to ORL whether we had to or not for reasons he was still clarifying. If that was good info, we might have left him unprotected for the same unknown reasons. I don't quite understand why we'd leave him for nothing, since he's great trade bait, but then I don't understand anything about what Doc was talking about either.

    You out there, Doc?

I agree. I would like some clarification on that as well. Doc, can you put to rest that Mobley is not on the Expansion list? Please?

I didnt realize the 2nd year was a player option which he will almost certainly exercise. However i think he would still make for an attractive rental player on a contending team.

Meaning he is not on the list of players the Bobcats can choose from? We know this for sure?

My guess is that Juwan was unprotected, and the list was not 100% accurate. I was surprised when I first saw the purported list, and that he was not on it, given how big his deal is, and how many years. And given Orlando needed to move him, or Gooden, due to problems they had playing both last year.
