Why are we waiting for the offseason to make a move, like a trade? If we know we must get better now, then what is the advantage of waiting, unless it's just to see if we can land Yao ming. I don't know why we should react later rather than now.Do we want the picks that bad?If we do isn't that admitting we are tanking in a sense.I know it's hard to be leveled headed after a 40 pt. loss, but what happens if all the wrong things happen. We can't trade Rice, we give up KT for nothing, Yao Ming isn't there?I just wonder if things will fall in place, after this year I seem to always expect the worse.

RT and CD probably don't want to trade the players they already have, and/or can't do so at this time.

Mo T likes it here, he's been working to get back (despite a "tokin'" setback...ouch, really bad pun) but he would be trade bait....except for his injury. How good will he be when he gets back?

Kenny T is due an extension next year. What's his market value? Who else wants him? Does he stay or go?

If we have our sights set on Rashard or Odom, then we need our draft picks (one lottery, the other in the top twenty) for sign-and-trade action.

RT and CD would apparently move Walt and/or Willis if we took back ending contracts only.

I think some desperate team will end up offering KT more money and more PT than the Rockets by next summer.

With that being said, trade him while his stock is high. He will not be logging 35 mins a game next year, provided that Mo does not see his season go "up in smoke".

    Why trade just to trade?

If we just wait until next year, we will get our starting forwards back, Taylor and Rice. Maybe something will be done to control Francis' migraines as well.

    TheFreak,

Generally I would agree with that assessment. I propose trading for a 3 because Rice is not the long-term answer. And we have a glut of power forwards. And the Rox are obviously interested in adding Odom or some such player (although I believe this is the 2nd year in a row they've inquired about him).

    Freak,

I concur, only do a trade if it is a slam dunk. The Rockets can release Willis later if they want to so he can hook up with another team.

One reason is more at our disposal.

We can't (couldn't have) traded our pick for this year, likely our greatest commodity. Our chances of getting an impact player, like Odom, via trade increase exponentially when we can dangle a ~top 5 pick.

Kenny Thomas is under contract for a cheap rate next season too, and we'd have a better idea of his expendability, based on Mo's play coming back from injury.

Yao Ming is far from a slam dunk anyway.

    On another note-
ROXTXIA: Fresh lotto picks will probably never used in a sign and trade unless we're talking an ultra-star (KG, TD,Shaq etc.). The purpose is to give the other team something, but they never get equal value. Lewis is good, but in a sign and trade, he's not worth a top 10 pick. I wouldn't be surprised if CD/RT skipped sign and trades all together, and offered full MCE, take it or leave it. Odom on the other hand would be a candidate to be traded for a lotto pick.
