Ever wonder why the Rockets could beat the Lakers one game and loose to the Clippers the next. Over the last few years it always looked like every big win was followed by an equally unmotivated loss. This quote by Steve Francis tells quite a bit. Former Rockets guard Steve Francis thought he finally got rid of O'Neal when he was traded to the Magic. "He caught up to me and those hard fouls he gives out, I'll be getting them more frequently," Francis said. "I was looking at Miami as a walkover team, but now, no way." http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...ports-headlines There are no walkover teams in the NBA. This is exactly why commentators always said the Rockets lacked a killer instinct. I teams like the Kings and the Mavs had similar views on the weaker teams of the NBA then I can pretty much guarantee that they would not be 50+ game winners every year. I saw this article posted by Matador in another thread in it basically pissed me off. Steve has no idea how many remote controls I’ve gone through because the Rockets would loose to one of the so called walkover teams in the NBA. Thanks Steve!
You call it whinning but I call it understanding why the Rockets were an inconsistent team that was finally disbanded this summer. If Steve's attitude had been different and he had taken every team seriously he might still be here.
The funny thing is that the Heat were a playoff team last year, so they were never going to be a "walkover team" for the Magic.
It has nothing to do with stomping on his grave. The guy just made a comment that explained why he and the Rockets have been so inconsistent during his time with the team. We have all spent time debating why the Rockets could look so bad against some of the worst teams in the NBA and now finally Steve explains why. There are no Walkover teams in the NBA.
Not even close. It is a new comment that sheds new light on an old subject. If you had been in my living room during some of those losses you would agree with me.
Thanks for the scoop. I don't think this is stomping on Francis' tomb. That expression is too dramatic. Actually it's more like etching the explanation of his death on that tombstone: "Steve Francis died from underestimating his opponents. "
\ So our inconsistency is soley blamed on Francis? I guess the other 11 players and coaches had nothing to do with it. And who cares anymore?
I think he's just trying to drive home that Francis was the leader of this team, and point out his attitude towards lesser teams. Obviously, you can't go far with an attitude like that and when your leader has it, it's tough. Hopefully someone will step up and be a true leader this year.
Losses to Sub .500 teams in 03/04 season: Toronto Seattle Phoenix Seattle Boston Phoenix Seattle Phoenix Golden State Golden State Losses to Sub .500 teams in 02/03 season: Seattle Clippers Memphis Clippers New York Golden State Atlanta Chicago Cleveland Miami New York Washington Seattle That’s 23 losses to sub .500 teams in just the last two years. 16 and 0 against the central 4 years ago does not hold water.
No but Franchise was the leader of the Rockets over the last several years so I think his attitude is one of the main reasons if not the main reason. I care.
Past is the past. Lets move on. We could blame Stevie's inconsistent play, or Rudy's love of the ISO, or Cato's love of pizza, or Drexler's hatred of Barkley, or the fact that an evil vegetarian b**** made the Rocket Powerdancers dress in lame t-shirts in the 4th period, but in the end, we are where we are because of what happened. I like where we are.
Good find...I agree with you...and yet I still am sorry Stevie is gone (tho happier that TMc is here).
