    In case you were wondering.

What is the green cirlce on the back of the quarterback helemts? The answer here.

    By Frank D. Murgia

While watching football today many people in a three hour time frame asked the question? What are the little neon green circles or dots on the back of the Quarterback helmet's?

Well the answer to that question is this... they signify the helmet's that are wired electronically. Pretty much the audio communication from the coaching staff to the QB.

Only QB's can wear those helmets. If a receiver or safety or any non-qb breaks a helmet on a play he can't grab the backup QB helmet and wear it. Also the green sticker makes the helmet identifiable to the audio tech crew for pre-game fine tuning.

    1) no one asked.

    2) we all knew.

    just playing.

Anyhoo, check this out. In Seattle, Seneca Wallace has to use two helmets. One with the dot, and one with out, because they use him in formations, so he has to grab the right helmet.

I knew this, but you posting it made me think of something.

Carolina ran David Carr out as a receiver for a play this week, did he have to switch helmets?

I've seen the dots....didn't know what they stood for.

    Thanks for clarifying that....really. :)

only one dude can have the green dot. if delhomme or whoever was under center, carr would need to switch to a regular helmet.

I was actually wondering what it was myself. I knew only QBs had it. Thats about it.

Damn those guys actually break helmets? God I would totally hate to be in the NFL. That's like getting hit by a sledge hammer.

Yeah I don't really know much about football.

Weird, I always thought the green dot meant that the helmet had a built in scalp massager in it.

So is pocket presence really necessary? These QBs could really just have a bunch of coaches yelling at the top of their lungs to GO RIGHT or GET RID OF IT! ... etc.

Though there will be a delay in response, but how does that work, exactly?

I thought Carr always got to wear the special helmet because of the Americans with Disabilities Act. ;) :D

    OK, that was bad!

I don't think break means literally to crack the shell. It can be as minor as a bad chin strap.

From my understanding the audio is cut off at the hike of the ball...or something like that, basically cant communicate during the play. or not supposed to be able to

Assistant: Yes sir. Right Blue 40 Zone Ram.

I think one defensive player is allowed to have a radio helmet to receive plays as well.

I thought it was so that the REF could notice the QB only. Just saying, is all... :(

Nope. That's why Spygate existed. The DEF has to get signals from sidelines.
