Glen Rice missed a pre-season game with the flu. It seems to me that the Rockets players miss an awful lot of games with the flu. The company I work at gives free flu shots to all employees. Maybe the Rockets ought to try this. Or is "flu" a code word for "hung over"?
it seems like every team, not just the rocks, go through a period where one or more players get the flu. i guess it's just the closeness of how they work and travel.
Everybody knows that flu shots aren't 100% effective. It's more of a roll of the dice than anything. The way flu shots work is that doctors study different flu strains and what strains have hit the most people during recent years, then design a vaccine each year on which strain of the flu they THINK will hit the public the hardest. Of course, there are many different strains of the flu and new strains pop up each year, so if you get the wrong strain, you are SOL.
Flu Shots (like all vaccines) contain mercury, formaldehyde, aluminum and diseased animal tissue. Why in the world would anyone allow themselves to be injected with such toxins? You can pump me full of carcinogen embalming fluid when I am dead and never before then. If the immune system is funtioning properly and is given what it needs to work right, the flu doesn't come your way. I haven't had the flu in 6 years. The flu shot is a joke. They have no idea what strain of the flu will be causing problems this year. They just guess! Also, the pharmaceuticals make a hefty profit from them too. They don't give a flip about health only the $$$$$$ - I don't care what they tell us on their 500 commercials they run every night. Have the pharmaceutical companies ever cured one disease? Don't say polio because I will reem you with the truth.
You would think that with the shape these guys are in that they would get the flu less, not more than the average person. It seems every year our players get "so sick" from the flu that they can't ball. If you took twelve random people & added up how many days work they missed from the flu I bet it would be less than that of the Rockets team last year!
Part of it is definitely the travel. What makes you sick in Houston may be totally different from what makes you sick in Boston. You develop immunities to the Houston illness, but the Boston one knocks you out. I used to live in DC and every time there was a Pres. inaugeration folks would come from all over the country and the world and bring different flus and colds. Seemed like the whole town was sick for a month after the event.
I wouldn't mind some truth - please tell.... What do you think about some of the drugs that allow AIDS patients and cancer patients to have longer lifes? Not a cure, but a damn good start. Sure they care about $$$, they are companies. But they have done SOME good.
Rocket Freak: A-FREAKIN-MEN!!! Everyone also has to remember that most of these guys are on anti-inflamatories and other various medications for injuries and health issues. Combine that with the constant physical stress on their bodies and the stresses associated with travel and not always getting the right amount of sleep and you get a really weakened immune system. Now, put them nose to nose with not just their teammates but players from around the country and shaking hands with dozens of different people every day, it is hard to imagine how they stay healthy in the first place.
